Fetal Risk Summary


Ethinamate is a hypnotic used for insomnia. Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted with this drug. The Collaborative Perinatal Project monitored 50,282 mother-child pairs, 68 of whom had 1st trimester exposure to miscellaneous tranquilizers and nonbarbiturate sedatives (1). Three of these exposures were to ethinamate. From the total group of 68, six infants with malformations were delivered, but details on individual exposures were not given.
