Fetal Risk Summary
Benazepril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor. No reports of the use of this agent in human pregnancy have been located, but this class of drugs should be used with caution, if at all, during gestation. Use of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors limited to the 1st trimester does not appear to present a significant risk to the fetus, but fetal exposure after this time has been associated with teratogenicity and severe toxicity in the fetus and newborn, including death. See Captopril or Enalapril for a summary of fetal and neonatal effects from these agents.
[*Risk Factor DM if used in 2nd or 3rd trimesters.]
Breast Feeding Summary
No reports describing the use of benazepril during lactation have been located. Because of its relatively low molecular weight (about 461), passage into milk should be expected. Other agents in this class are excreted into milk and, because the amounts are low and no adverse effects have been observed in nursing infants, are considered to be compatible with breast feeding (see also Captopril and Enalapril).
Questions and Answers
What are the interactions of the drugs allopurinol and benazepril?,
The combined use of allopurinol and captopril has been associated with the development of a rah or hives in two reports in the literature. These types of reactions have also been seen with these drugs when used alone. Due to chemical differences between captopril and other angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors, the potential for this interaction may be less. Discuss this potential interaction with your healthcare provider at your next appointment, or sooner if you think you are having problems.
This interaction is poorly documented and is considered major in severity.
I'm taking high blood pressure pills (Benazepril 20mg and Atenolol 25mg) is it ok to us Robitussin DM?,
no this is not a good idea try a product in the Coricidin line they have specific cold medicines for people with high blood pressure and on medication for it just look for the products that have the HP beside the name.
what is the medication benazepril used for?,
it's an ACE inhibitor (angiotensin converting enzyme) used to treat high blood pressure
Can Benazepril/HCTZ 20-25mg, affect a mans ability to have an erection. His Dr.says it can't,we think it has,
Who is "we"? Is "we" doctors. Your doctor is basing his advice on what the medication contains. If he is telling you that, then the medicine contains nothing that would cause the loss of or prevention of an erection. Perhaps you need to view the window instead of looking thru it. The disease your husband/boyfriend has may be affecting his ability.
Doctor wants to put me on benazepril... Do you know about this drug?, So I went to the doctor about a pain in my head and he said it's likely from my high blood pressure, which is 174/85... He told me to take a daily 10mg dose of a medication called benazepril. I haven't really used medication before and I typically hate the idea of it because it seems unnatural to me. Has anyone else used this and is it safe? I'm sure it's better than having a stroke, but I really don't feel right about putting chemicals in my body. Is there any natural alternative to lowering my blood pressure?
If I were in your shoes, I would make some changes in my life style and monitor my blood pressure over a period of at least a few months before even considering taking any kind of drug. I think doctors are awesome at diagnosing but too quick to cover up the problem with drugs. I would focus more on what caused the problem in the first place and take steps to correct THAT. What causes your high blood pressure? Poor diet? Lack of exercise? Smoking? Not enough "down time?" I don't like taking medication either because, like you said, it's NOT natural. It's taxing on your liver and chances are you'll experience side affects that your doctor will just try to cover up with more drugs!
I'm glad to know it's not a brain tumour!
Why would my Dr. prescribe Amlodipine Benazepril with Triamterene?, Lisinopril 10/12.5 worked great for me for 13yrs. BP started elevating and he started me on Norvasc 5mg. Worked for a week, BP elevated again. Now, he prescribed Amlodipine Benazepril with Triamterene. I have side effects from them all. My BP was still up the first time I took the Amlodipine and it is stated that this medicine can take as long as 2wks to see any effects. I can't tee tee when I take the Triamterene 75/50mg. I can't possibly be retaining that much fluid, I'm skinny as a race horse. I need some relief, not side effects. I don't trust my Dr.'s knowledge in prescribing medicine for me. My old Dr. did it right the first time. It seems as though this Dr. is just guessing. It is stated that Triamterene should not be used with Amlodipine. What do you say about this whole thing? I
That would be a really good question to ask your doctor... that's why you're paying him.
There very well may be something in your medical history that you don't realize is important (and in turn aren't mentioning to us), so anyone here would be making half-blind guesses... your doctor would have all the facts right at hand. It's really not a big deal to them because they are paid to help clients... that's their job.
If your doctor isn't available, you can ask a nurse or other hospital staff person and they can find out for you based on the reason he prescribed them and not a guess. Good luck!
Which of the following medications will NOT contribute to changes in absorption of other medications?, a. Amitriptyline
b. Diphenhydramine
c. Benazepril
d. Omeprazole
...and why???
c. Benazepril
The others all affect gastric acid or motility.
Amitriptiline is a tricyclic antidepressant with considerable histaminic activity and can alter bladder and bowel motility (see http://bipolar.about.com/cs/sfx/a/sfx_el... and constipation).
Diphenhydramine is the antihistamine better known as Benedril and can also affect bowel and bladder function.
Omeprazole is Prilosec and diminishes gastric acid production and pH which can affect drug absorption.
Benazelpril is an ACE inhibito used for high blood pressure and does not affect bowel function.
Can Husbands High BP meds cause infertility?, My husband and I have been TTC for about five months. I think I'm healthy for the most part, but my husband has high blood pressure and is on Benazepril (lotensin). Can this cause problems with his sperm. I heard that some BP meds can cause problems but I'm not sure if his can. Has anyone gotten prego with their mate taking these kinds of meds? Thanks.
your husbands meds may be one of the many factors that may be causing infertility but then again you never know it could also have something to do with you so i recommend you both get checked out just to be safe
My systolic BP is always high (155)..but the diastolic is always 80 (155/80).......?, I'm taking 2 different BP meds, but every time my pressure is checked, the systolic is always high. Any new BP meds available? My cholesterol and body weight are normal. I take 5mg of Benazepril and 5 mg of Amlodipine once a day.
You can have isolated systolic hypertension (high BP). Also, when you check you BP, its never really done correctly at the Drs office. For one thing, you've been waiting in the waiting room, stressed about if they will call u in on time, running around etc etc. All these things can raise BP. Its best to check BP... then wait 10 minutes and sit calmly, and recheck.
Also....see if maybe a diuretic can be added on, talk to your doctor. There are lots of BP meds that can be combined and diuretics (i.e "water pills") can also be added.
