Name: VACCINE, MEASLES
Class: Vaccine
Risk Factor:    CM

Fetal Risk Summary

Measles (rubeola) vaccine is a live, attenuated virus vaccine (1,2 and 3). Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted with the vaccine.

Measles occurring during pregnancy may result in significant maternal morbidity, an increased abortion rate, stillbirth, prematurity, and congenital malformations (1,2). Although a fetal risk from the vaccine has not been confirmed, the vaccine should not be used during pregnancy because fetal infection with the attenuated viruses may occur (1,2,3 and 4). The manufacturer and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists lists pregnancy as a contraindication and recommend that pregnancy should be avoided for 3 months following vaccination (1,2). A shorter interval is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (5). They recommend that women avoid becoming pregnant for 30 days after vaccination (5). However, no cases of congenital malformations attributable to measles vaccine virus have been reported (5).

Q&A about Vaccine Measles

Do you need a (second) vaccine shot of measles if you already had measles?
My school just told me that I need another (second dose) of measles vaccine but I don't think I do. The thing is that I had measles as a kid so there is no point in getting the second dose now. Is the health center right?
iamhis0
No, you do not need it. Get a letter from your Dr explaining that you had the measles and give it to the school. If your Dr is new or was unaware you had the measles at one point, have your Titer checked(they draw your blood and check for immunity). If you do not want to have the shot, and trying to prove immunity does not work, you can always file an exemption.

http://www.909shot.com has info on exemptions.

Good Luck!

The only one I recall seeing is at:

I found this article when I did a search:

http://www.thinkhard.org/2007/09/mmr-vac...

When you are searching Google, look in the top left hand corner and click on images. Try putting in search words and see what pulls up. There will probably be many, so use select search words specific to what you need.

Did she discover her pregnancy 45 days after the injection or did she attempt pregnancy after 45 days. Makes a difference.

If she was NOT PREGNANT for 4 weeks (30 days) following the injection, she is perfectly safe. If she discovered she was pregnant 45 days after the injection, then she needs to talk to her doctor ASAP because she was already pregnant within the 4 week period.

Most cities have free clinics that do free immunizations, look it up in the government section of your phone book. You'll need to bring your shot record with you when you go.

Measles vaccine question?
Is it ok if I will have my 9-1/2 month old daughter vaccinated with a measles vaccines ( not yet mmr -12-15 months ) on April 3 ? She was vaccinated with a Flu vaccines last March 13. Hence only 21 days will separate the Flu vaccine & Measles vaccine. I'm asking this because, I just read in the internet that NO other vaccine should be given to a child within 4-6 weeks of measles or MMR vaccine. Thanks

I had never heard that, ask your pediatrician when you go. She will know and have your babies best interest in mind.

If you had the chicken pox vaccine then you should be ok. If you haven't then you need to.

allergy to measles vaccine?
i developed a rash after the measles vaccine almost a month ago. at first i thought it was a mild case of measles but its been a month and the rash is not getting serious. it started with my back then my neck and now my chest region. i have seen a doctor and he said i was allergic to the vaccine. he gave me a cream a weak ago but still the rash continues. what should i do?
Heather W
if the rash hasn't started to get better and it has been a week since you started using the cream just give your Dr a call and let them know. It may take longer than a week for the cream to take full effect but by now you should be able to tell that the rash is starting to get better or starting to go away.
