Fetal Risk Summary

Terazosin is a peripherally acting a1-adrenergic blocking agent used in the treatment of hypertension and symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Reproduction studies in rats and rabbits at doses 280 and 60 times the recommended maximum human dose (RMHD) revealed no teratogenic effects, but an increased incidence of fetal resorptions occurred in both species (1). In addition, decreased fetal weight and an increased number of supernumerary ribs were observed in rabbit offspring. The embryo/fetal toxicity in both species was attributed to maternal toxicity (1). A significant increase in rat pup mortality was also seen at doses more than 75 times the RMHD in peri- and postnatal studies (1).

No reports describing the use of terazosin in human pregnancy have been located.

Breast Feeding Summary

No reports describing the use of terazosin during lactation have been located. The molecular weight (about 460 for the hydrochloride salt) is low enough, however, that excretion into breast milk should be expected.

Why should I take my Terazosin? What does it do for my complexion?,

I looked up everything I could find on Terazosin and found it was a medication used "treat the symptoms of urinary obstruction as a result of an enlarged prostate. Terazosin relaxes the smooth muscles of the bladder neck and the prostate and increases urine flow. Terazosin is also used alone or in combination with another blood pressure medication to treat high blood pressure." Nothing I found indicated it would help with one's complexion. It does indeed have many side effects. Please ask your doctor.

First of all if you don't know you shouldn't be taking it. Call your doctor's office, or even better get a new doctor because this one shouldn't have let you leave the office without an explanation of your med. That having been said here's the article from Wikipedia about your med.

Terazosin (HytrinВ®) is an alpha blocker used for treatment of symptoms of prostate enlargement (BPH). It also acts to lower the blood pressure, so is a drug of choice for men with hypertension and prostate enlargement.

It works by blocking the action of adrenaline on smooth muscle of the bladder and the blood vessel walls.

Most common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, headache, constipation, loss of appetite, fatigue, nasal congestion or dry eyes, but they generally go away after only a few days of use. Sexual side effects are rare, but may include priapism or erectile dysfunction.
