Studies in pregnant rabbits with quinacrine produced increased fetal mortality, but no structural defects were observed (1). In humans, a newborn with renal agenesis, hydronephrosis, spina bifida, megacolon, and hydrocephalus whose mother received quinacrine 0.1 g/day during the 1st trimester has been reported (2). Topical application of solutions containing 125 mg/mL of quinacrine directly into the uterine cavity has resulted in tubal occlusion and infertility (3).
