The longer you take it and the higher the dose generally the more side effects.
Fluid weight gain can be a problem around the stomach, back of neck and rounding of the face.
It can make your skin thinner - hence bruise easier.
Also can deplete bone density - more of a concern for women.
Can also make you very awake, kind of hyper feeling.
It is a widely used drug, and not much negative feedback.

I found a few things that say you may have problems after birth, but your child will be fine.... here is my source.... hope this helps and best wishes to you
Is it better to take Prednisolone ONCE or TWICE daily for a chronic condition?
My cat has been taking Prednisolone longterm for a chronic condition. I'm currently giving 5 mg ONCE daily in the morning. I'm wondering if it would be better to give 2.5 mg TWICE (in the morning and in the evening).
I was just thinking that if it was given 12 hours apart instead of 24, that it would be more effective.

It definately matters with steroids. Morning is the best time to give steroids so that they have the most beneficial effects; this is because natural steroids are produced in the body at this time. If you are going to split it up, it should be 2.5 in the morning, and 2.5 in the early afternoon.
How long can I take prednisolone tablets before it effects me in a bad way?
I have emphysema and I find that when I take prednisolone tablets my breathing becomes a little easier and I feel and eat better (my appetite is poor). I don't know why this happens, but my doctor says that its not a good idea to continue to take them. How many mg can I safely take and for how long until it starts to damage me.

prescription of prednisolone during the third trimester of pregnancy?
My wife is pregnant for 38 weeks. She got rashes all over her skin for the past two weeks. The condition of the rashes is worsening..
We seek a skin specialist and my wife is prescribed with a 30mg dose of prednisolone a day for one week. Does this drug will affect the baby?

Looks like it should be okay for just a week this late into the pregnancy. Don't believe everything the doctor says, though- do your research. If she's uncomfortable with that prescription, call the pharmacist and see what he/she says, too. 30mg is a very low dose though and should be fine.

I would like to answer a subject relating to prednisolone and alcohol?
It is a question that has long ago been resolved but, I am taking 10mg of prednisolone a day for polymyalgia. Last week I checked up with our local pharmacist who said that alcohol in moderation was perfectly alright, as long as I did not get tipsy. I just thought I would let you know.

No amount of alcohol is ok with Prednisolone. The pharmacist is way off by telling you that you can drink as long as you don't "get tipsy." Prednisolone is a steroid, and any steroid when mixed with alcohol can be damaging to you stomach. I'd ask your doctor about it before you take the word of a pharmacist.
Do the side effects of prednisolone go away after I stopped taking the medication?
I am currently on 20mg of prednisolone. The dosage was reduced to the current amout after taking it for six months. I am suffering from side effects such as severe acne flare ups, moon face, weight gain, insomnia, mood swings, occasional muscle pain, excessive growth of hair and stretch marks. I had asked the doctor about the stretch marks and he said that they will become less visible when i stop taking the medication but they will stay there forever. I am so depressed sometimes and really do not know what to do.I want to know whether if i will slim down and the excessive hair grown will drop when i stop medication?

Yes, the side effects will go away once you have stopped the medication. However, with the weight gain you may have to go on a diet to lose some of it.
Prednisone is such an icky medication. Works good, but side effects are awful. Hang in there, things will get better.

What are the side effects of Prednisolone in dogs?
My mini dachshund was prescribed Prednisolone for severe allergies. She has already started gaining weight, and we were told that the medication might affect her Adrenal system. But I was wondering what specifically might we expect?

Longterm cortico steroids do affect bones and organs. They cause the adrenal system to stop producing it's own steroids (cushing's disease). The disease should be more serious than the medicine if you choose to use them longterm. With severe allergies, longterm steroid use would be better than the final option of euthanasia.
