Fetal Risk Summary

Nylidrin is a b-adrenergic receptor stimulant used as a vasodilator in the United States. The drug has been studied in Europe as a tocolytic agent for premature labor and for the treatment of hypertension in pregnancy (1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7). Systolic blood pressure is usually unchanged, with a fall in total peripheral resistance greater than the decrease in diastolic pressure (8,9). Although maternal hyperglycemia has been observed, especially in diabetic patients, this or other serious adverse effects were not reported in the above studies in mothers or in newborns.
