Birth control & minocycline.. pregnant?!?

So... I'm taking Minocycline for my acne and I'm taking YAZ birth control. If i had sex without a condom what are the chances of me getting pregnant? I know that Minocycline decreases the effectiveness of BC but I'm not sure by how much.?

Antibiotics are notorious for negating birth control pills. If you absolutely do not want to get pregnant, then forget about playing the numbers game and use an alternate method of birth control till you're done with the antibiotics.

Minocycline, birth control, breakthrough bleeding, pregnant?

I started taking minocycline 5 days into my active birth control pills. Sex 5 days after that (with unsuccessful 2nd form of bc), which was also my last days of minocycline. One week later, we have sex (no second form of bc) and I begin breakthrough bleeding for 9 days. Bleeding began with 6 days left of active bc pill and continued 4 days into inactive pills. Now, 5 days into inactive pills, the bleeding has stopped. No real heavy period, just light bleeding. Went to Obgyn last week...not pregnant from first occasion of sex, but is it likely to be pregnant from second time? Why no breakthrough bleeding until 1 week after ending antibiotics. Should I expect a normal period after breakthrough bleeding for a week? Thanks for your help!

If you aren't prego, it may be the antibiotics messing with your cycle, its hard to tell. As to why there was not bleeding until after you stopped the pill, it may that the antibiotics disrupted your hormone balance which sent you into your cycle early. Unfortunately, I think you will just have to wait it out.

what are the risk of becoming pregnant while taking minocycline? is it really bad?

Minocycline will decrease the effectivness of your birth control pills. Just ask my 12 year old son he's living proof. If you want to be safe, just add on a different birht control, such as a condom while you're taking it and I would suggest at least a week after you stop taking it. Unless you'd like a bundle of joy all your own.

I am 6 weeks pregnant, I took minocycline (acne tabs) and used benzoly peroxide will this harm it?

You probably took them without knowing you were pregnant, correct? While they are probably not recommend during pregnancy, it is very common for people to do things like this early on pregnancy without knowing they are pregnant and not harming the baby in anyway. With my first, without knowing I was pregnant, I took a lot of strong medicine for back pain, and took steam baths and all. When I found out about the pregnancy I immediately asked the doctor what would be the consequences of the medicines I took, and her answer was that usually if anything you take or do will harm the baby, there is usually a miscarriage this early on. In fact, my baby was born just fine. But I would definitely stop taking everything and run this through your ob. Good luck and congratulations!

On Minocycline 75mg 2X a day for acne...I want t try to get pregnant?

Can I keep taking this medicine while I'm trying to concieve or during pregnancy or do I need to stop before I try? Will it effect me getting pregnant?

I used to be on Minocycline as well. When my dermatologist found out I was not using any hormonal form of birth controle he refused to perscribe it to me any longer. He said he could not be responsible for the damage it would do to my child. So, when I heard that of course I freaked and stopped all together. The pimples were worth staying healthy incase there was an accident. That was several years ago. Now I have a 19 month old boy and am using Proactive. I used it while nursing and am using it while trying to concieve. It is better than the minocycline because it is not just taking care of the acne, it is also keeping my skin young and fresh, and it heals that red spots and acne. I HIGHLY recommend it.

It is so important to protect your baby. Having a child means becoming selfless. It is to have your heart walking around outside of your body! Take this first step in letting go of something important to you for the sake of your babe, and get used to it, lol. I promise you it will be well worth it. And there are alternatives to Minocycline that work!

Is my girlfriend pregnant or is it just the birth control?

My girlfriend has been taking the birth control pill 'Ortho Tri-cycline' for about 11 months now. She was supposed to start her period last week but she still hasn't had it, however she did have light spotting yesterday, but nothing since then. For a week she took the antibiotic 'Minocycline' about 2 weeks ago. Could she be pregnant, or is it just the pills messing up her cycle?

If she took antibiotics two weeks ago it is very well possible that she could have gotten pregnant. I would have her take a pregnancy test to find out for sure. Light spotting could have been the embryo implanting.

Only way to know for sure is to take the test.

Also the pill may be 99% effective, but pregnancy can still happen. That is why they recommend two forms of contraceptive if you want to assure that you don't get pregnant. (As well as prevent any STD's)

Hope all works out for you. It is best that she finds out sooner then later because taking the BC pill while pregnant can harm the unborn baby.

How old do you have to be to take medication without your parent's consent?

I have been prescribed Minocycline by my doctor for the treatment of acne. As soon as my mom came in the room and the doctor told me what I was to take, she refused and said I would not do oral antibiotics. However, I and my doctor find this neccessary. How old do I need to be to take medication without my parent's consent? I realise that you can be pregnant or take birth control without notifying your parents, and I was wondering if there is a similar concept for taking medications.

Well im 13, and if like i have a headache or something i will go take an advil, then notify my parents later. But I won't run up and ask them for permission if heir busy. And obviously i can read, so i read the bottle for how often I can take it and the side effects.

BC and Minocycline?

I am taking both minocycline and yasmin for my acne. But me and my boyfriend also have sex without a backup. Is there a high risk of getting pregnant from using both of these medications without a condom?
