Q&A about Mineral Oil

mineral oil?
i heard that mineral oil is bad for ur tan, but i see it in every moisturizer for tanning, what exactly does mineral oil do??
summerti...
Mineral oil is bad for your skin because it acts as blocker and clogs your pores. It doesn't allow moisturizer in or out which is probably why the aloe vera doesn't seem to be working so well.

There are several products on the market used for tanning and used to help sustain and moisturize your skin/tan after tanning. They have a hemp based tanning lotion you might check out, there are several different brands but look at the ingredients to check for mineral oil.

Also, check out www.rejuvenateurlife.myarbonne.com, there is a product line called Before Sun - there are several products in there but the one I am specifically speaking of is the Tan Enhancer which helps you keep your tan longer. Awesome product!

Also, there are tons of different lines on body lotions/skincare the most effective is the RE9 body line. It is a two step system - body serum and lotion. The serum penetrates deep into the skin layers to begin the moisturizing process and then the lotion keeps moisturizing your skin throughout the day.

How long is mineral oil good for?
I have a bottle of mineral oil stored at room tempurature for about a year now. How long is it good until it spoils? Does mineral oil spoil?
science teacher
Mineral oil does not spoil. It is not good for humans to consume.

What is the advantages and pitfalls between synthetic oil and mineral oil?
Some said that synthetic oil can last more longer.

Lets say... it can sustain up to 10,000KM meanwhile mineral oil needed to change at every interval of 5000KM.

How true it is?

Have you heard about semi-synthetic oil? How do we know whether the oil that we purchasing was semi-synthetic oil?

Are the manufacturers goin to label there?

And what the hell they created semi-synthetic oil?

If they wanted to create a man, just create it and not something in-between. That was totally ridiculous.

Before synblend, I often used both Mobil One http://www.mobiloil.com and standard petroleum mixed together because they always have been compatible. Mostly I used full synthetic Mobil One since the 60's on all my cars and I've never had any major engine work in over 200,000 miles on all the cars. However, full synthetics are now $5 a quart even at price clubs, so a synblend will give you much of the same performance at a lesser cost. Ford now does all it's oil changes using Motorcraft synblend. Since I have many Fords, I go to the dealer and get the synlube and a Motorcraft oil filter for about $23. Not a bad deal considering your getting dealer quality parts and service. I believe Ford allows 7500 mile extended service oil changes using it's Motorcraft synblend oil.

what is the best mineral oil to use in a baby kittens food?
i was told by a vet that adding a few dops of mineral oil to kitten food will help assist with its bowels. do i just use regular or is there a specific type? is organic better or does it really not make a difference?
justlilo...
I have never used mineral oil for babies but have used vegetable oil. I would definitely give the vet a call for the type and the amount. Too much can cause more problems.

It does also help to run their back ends under a stream of warm water in the sink while stimulating them. Make sure you are stimulating them long enough. I try for a good 60 seconds. Another tip is to put a little vasoline on their bottoms. If they are having a hard time going, the vasoline helps lubricate a little and hopefully make it easier for them.

How do I use mineral oil USP on my leather couch?
I have a leather couch and some areas are looking a little dry. I have a couch, loveseat and a chair and heard that mineral oil USP can be used as a conditioner. If you know if this is true or how to use it, could you please post it for me? Thanks in advance!

Just get armoral for car leather. It's not worth the risk of discoloration using some wacko's advice on mineral oil here in Yahoo.

Is mineral oil really that bad for the skin?
I recently bought this shimmering body oil by Bare Bronze to add some color and a healthy glow to my skin (I don't like to tan in the sun). The main ingredient is "Mineral Oil (Paraffinum Liquidum)." I know that mineral oil may clog the pores on the face, but will it do any harm if I put it on my body? And is it true that too much mineral oil lead to skin cancer?
Heleyna
yes its true....I'm in the skin care industry so stay away from it. its terrible for your skin and your health. please go to this website and type it in the search engine to tell you every detail about it

cosmeticsdatabase.com

Mineral Oil is a petroleum derived preservative and is the chief cause of that greasy after-feel on the skin. A liquid mixture of hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum, mineral oil can attract dirt and causes blackheads and eruptions. It can accelerate free radical damage, thus speeding up the aging process, because it causes toxins to build up in the skin.

Mineral Oil is an extremely cheap ingredient (much cheaper than any natural oil) and is colourless and odorless, it is used in many skin care products to fill up space in a bottle and to make the shelf life last between 3-5 years. It has no proven benefit to the skin whatsoever.

Mineral oil cannot be absorbed by the skin thereby leaving mineral oil in the pores. This retards the absorption of emollient (moisture) creams. To add insult to injury, mineral oil is not water soluble, so it cannot be rinsed off. It sits on the skin, drying your skin, clogging the pores and causing acne. Instead of penetrating the skin, Mineral Oil coats and wraps your skin like plastic wrap. Your skin literally suffocates because oxygen can't penetrate it and it can't breathe, therefore, it starts to die and/or age prematurely.

Petrolatum (Petroleum Jelly) is a grease made from petroleum. It is used in the manufacturing industry as a grease component. Manufacturers use petrolatum because it is unbelievably cheap. Petrolatum exhibits many of the same potentially harmful properties as mineral oil.

Will basic mineral oil from the drugstore harm your engine?
I recently received information about adding very small amounts of clear mineral oil to the crankcase and the gas tank to improve gas mileage. I tried their formula and to my suprise, it worked! Will it harm my engine or fuel system?
httnmrtt
Mineral oil is a better lubricant than petroleum oil and will actually help the engine. Do not use a lot because it doesn't have the detergent additives that keep the carbon particles in suspension until the next oil change.

Should you oil a dishwasher gasket with vegetable or mineral oil?
I was taught that you should use mineral oil, not vegetable oil, on a cutting board because vegetable oil could go rancid. I wouldn't want that smell in my dishwasher, either, but the repairman said to use vegetable oil, not mineral oil. Any experience with either?

How can Palmers Cocoa butter be good if it contains mineral oil?
I thought anything with mineral oil would be unable to penetrate the skin and would just lie on the skin surface..?
Brie
Good point...

Entirely depends on how much mineral oil it contains.

If you want the benefits of cocoa butter- why not buy some and melt it down with some oils to make your own (very rich) moisturiser?

Palmers also contains propylene glycol (antifreeze) and several other ingredients I would avoid.

Have a look online for some recipes and enjoy making your own :)

Good on you for thinking about it...
