When does the Patent expire on Lipitor in Philippines? Is any generic available of Atorvastatin in Philippines ?

According to Google it doesn't expire until 2010

When does the patent for lipitor run out?

there are 2, expiring in 2010 and 2011. They will be challenged by Ranbaxy, and each must be defended (presumably why there are 2- they probably claim slightly different therapeutic targets- don't know, don't work there). Patents aren't always watertight...

PS, re the previous answer, it sounds like you have some background knowledge on this process, but just to clarify- the 20 years starts ticking the moment you find and register the compound- there are generally around 10 year between this and the compound getting to market. The company will file subsequent patent claims about additional uses to try to extend patent life. (believe me, the big pharma have whole depts working on how to extend patents) All can be contested.

Coke patent: why doesn't it (ever) expire like, for instance, the patent on Lipitor?

What gives with this?

Coke was a trade secret, not patent. So nobody knows the formula of making coke.

Coke also have it's trademark protected. It is two four letters words that is protected.

If something is patent, like a medical patent, the formula is known to public and the right last for 20 years. After 20 years, any one can look at these formula and make the medicine.

How long does a drug company get to keep a patent on a new drug it introduces? (Lipitor, Viagra, etc.)?

Brand-name drugs are generally given patent protection for 20 years from the date of submission of the patent. This provides protection for the innovator who laid out the initial costs (including research, development, and marketing expenses) to develop the new drug.

what is the patent expiration date for the drug lipitor?

More complicated question than you think.

In US, the basic patent for Lipitor (active ingredient- atorvastatin) expires on March 24, 2010.

The second patent covering the calcium salt of atorvastatin (Lipitor) expires on June 28, 2011.

In Europe, the basic patent for Lipitor (active ingredient- atorvastatin) expires in 2007. The second patent covering the calcium salt of atorvastatin (Lipitor) expires in July 2010.

Will Lipitor ever be available in a generic form? I do know that there is a period of time that has to pass.?

I am curious as to know when will Lipitor be available in the generic form? I know that a number of years must pass after the patent. Hasn't the appropriate number of years passed already? Or is it just greed on the part of the big Drug Companies trying to squeeze the consumer even further, especially the way the economy is now. It is ashame that the big drug companies are so greedy. Thank you

I believe I heard that Lipitor will go off patent in a year or two in the U.S.. Crestor has two or three years to go
