I know it causes heart attacks and strokes and depletes the Co Enzyme Q10 that makes our heart strong but in transplant surgery to helpin controlling rejection by shutting down my immune system? I know that a lot have died taking it.
not safe..
I had heart surgery a year ago ,I would like to get off the plavix and lipitor. What are the risks?
Please don't do it without asking your doc. I've seen many people coming into the ER cause they didn't take their Plavix. I've seen that medicine work in so many people!! And Lipitor (or the like) has also been shown to reduce the chance of second heart attacks. So, ask your doc. He may work with you.

About 80 # overweight..@ 220 and need to be at 140
before spending all this money make a scheduled 1 mile walk everyday for 1 week and see if you notice any difference.
stop drinking soda and cut down on unnecessary foods that you know are bad for you. drink water. A LOT. yes you will urinate, but carrying water with you every where you go does wanders.
2nd week make it a two mile walk. DO IT EVERYDAY! if you can't do it one day, add an extra mile the next and then go back to normal.
3rd week see if you can jog, walk, jog, walk the first mile and walk the 2nd.
4th week you should notice an effect you will be really satisfied with and keep sticking to it. if you feel it's working do it every other day or 3 days and rest one day and so on.
that's my plan and i see a difference daily. and i can now run 2 miles!!! i started out not being able to run 1/4!!!!
belly fat is a hard thing to loose but it's not impossible. the best way to do it is cardio. and once you start pushing yourself to run further and further. you'll notice it go down.
and you will feel so much more healthier. running is THE BEST way to get healthy and loose weight.
I would like to find out if heart medications can be taken with Advil tablets? I had a heart attack and bypass surgery done before Thanksgiving last year would like to find out about drug interactions of Altace, Lipitor, Levothyroxine, and furosemide have with Advil tablets.
An important thing to do is to use one pharmacy. In that way the pharmacist knows all of your medications.
You should ask your pharmacist and/or cardiologist that question. Your medical history is such that you do not need incorrect answers and guesses. Do not rely on this forum to give you answers.
That said you can find out some of the answers by yourself in addition to your cardiologist or pharmacist.
When you get a medication it comes with some statements about the medication such as how to use it, what to do if you miss a dose, when to take it and its major and minor complications. Read this information and keep them in a folder for reference.
Go to a good search engine such as Yahoo or Google and separately place the name of each medication together with words side effects. You will learn a lot.
Remember that no one has as much at stake about your safety and health as you do.
Get the expert advice, not hearsay and also do your own research.
I watched President Obama last night. Why was a lifestyle change not discussed? In 2006 I was as sick as a human can get. I had heart surgery 5 years before ans was heavily medicated by my primary physician. I changed my lifestyle and now I take NO PRESCRIPTION DRUGS, I eat right and I feel better than I did at 40. I am almost 74 now. Lipitor almost killed me as well as Vioox, Bextra and Baycol. All taken at the same time. All are toxic to humans.
On my last checkup my doctor asked me what medications I was on, when I responded none, 4 nurses stopped what they were doing and looked at me. I asked why everyone was looking at me and one nurse said because we have not seen someone your age who is not on prescription medication of some sort. Somehow I got the message when I was a teenager that diet and exercise were good for a body and it has carried me through life. I chose not to watch the farce last night only because I knew it would be one sided.
Does allopurinol for gout have affect cardiac disease or cardiac medications? My husband has been on allopurinol for 20+ years. Recently he had 2 heart attacks then coronary bypass surgery. He is now on lisinopril, toprol sl, lipitor and aspirin.
well, a number of very recent research works show that allopurinol is useful in heart failure. You shouldn't worry about the side effects of allopurinol on heart. I guessed there wasn't an important one. but just to make sure i checked my references once again and it was approved. You can always go over a very prestigious website (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/drugi⦠which contains medical info for general population and belongs to NIH.
I can provide you more information and also the full text of recenently published papers on beneficial effects of allopurionl on heart failure.
i hope this helps
recently i have been getting numb all over, and sometimes dizzy? i had five bypass open heart surgery three years ago, i don't smoke and try to eat healthy. also my feet have started swelling a little. i am on meds, plavix, lipitor, aspirin, any ideas of what it could be going on ? one doctor told me it is a pinched nerve.
They the only meds your on? Lipitor is for cholesterol, plavix to stop clots forming in the bypass area, asprin to thin your blood...you should also be on an Ace Inhibitor and a Beta Blocker, maybe a diuretic..vasodilator maybe...if thats the only meds your on, i'd change doctors FAST.
Mother had hip replacement surgery . now has fever and unknown infection..? My mom had her left hip replaced on Monday of this week. She has had an ongoing fever - on and off and multiple (8) blood transfusions. She has been incoherant and very out of it. We are waiting on her blood tests to find out what type of infection she may have. She is 200 lbs overweight and is also alcholic - which the dr's are aware of. She has HBP, is on Lipitor, and is border line diabetic. Any advice would be most helpful.. Thanks!
It's a tough situation...it's not uncommon for people to pick up infections in the hospital after surgery, and it's easier for that to happen when they aren't healthy or living a healthy lifestyle to begin with.
All you can do now, is keep asking direct questions of the doctors and nurses about her condition, because they won't offer up any more than the most basic technical information about her health status. Ask all of them them everything, even the what if's and the most small worries you have. Ask what the treatments are and what are the chances of this or that happening and what would they do if those things happened.
What will happen is what's going to happen, but getting the information in your mind and all of the things around the "what ifs" will help you feel more in control of the situation.
And pray if you pray, and/or ask the same of your friends and family. Spend as much time as possible with her and your family and friends. But make sure you get some breaks and do something else for a couple hours each day to keep your sanity.
I sure hope it all works out ok for her and for you and your family!
erection disorder? I'm 58, and I had bypass surgery 4 years ago. I take Lopressor for blood pressure, and Lipitor and Niaspan for cholesterol, and 162 mg aspirin daily. I can't get a decent erection anymore, and get only half hard. Is my medication to blame, or my age, or a combination? Is there anything I can do besides taking something like Viagra?
I'm so sorry to hear that you're not feeling well.
According to my Husband, first the medications that you're taking are deliberately designed to prevent blockages in your blood-vein system. This is to prevent you from having another heart attack. The problem is that in addition to preventing more heart attacks, it also is going to give you a hard time with erections because the same action of constricting blood vessels that normally happen with erections is also being blocked. So, in order to get the desirable results you're going to need something to constrict your blood flow. My Husband's suggestion is to use an external device such as a ring, or try tantric exercises, Kagel exercises (they also do work on men and not just women), and yoga.
The other thing that you can do is to get reconnected with your partner on a more emotional level. To this point, you can try something erotic such as stimulating pictures of each other, magazines, or other such media types.
He knows for a fact that while age can play an important part in this, it is not the deciding factor. The reason why is because he personally knows men well over sixty who are still getting it on with significantly younger women and they are not complaining at all.
My little personal reply is that if there is any health problems that you might experience either now or in the future, or if you're trying to get healthy... Find an Alternative Medicine and Therapies Clinic / Office in your area. The Alternative Medicine Therapists are highly experienced people practically in every field of healing. They will design a speciallized program just for you to follow through and they might also suggest something for you to do to get your health back on track by giving you either a set of exercises to follow and/or drink / eat special herbs that will improve your overall health.
I hope this helped you out.
Take care, get well and have a wonderful day :)
