Help! 45 yr. female with extreme leg muscle fatigue/weak, stopped Lipitor, made no difference,Doc's dismiss it

Was diagnosed with CFID's disease/Fibromyaligia in 1993 - then in remission - could it be back - but never had the leg thing before. Especially throbs at night - sometimes my arms do to - not in the joints, only muscles.

What you are describing is called restless leg syndrome. It can be very annoying and won't let you sleep. I know because I, too , have CF and Fibromyalgia. It is great that your fibro is in remission but I am afraid to tell you that it will come back. Good Luck and Good Health
Ask your doctor about this and he will prescribe a med for you to cope.

Lipitor and ALT levels?

Hi I am 35 yr Male, diabetic and have familial hypercholesterolemia (very high cholestero), I am on lipitor for 4 years. Last time I got my liver test done my ALT was 45 (5-40 ref. range), should I be discontinuing the LIPITOR?

Also my TSH (thyroid harmone ) is below normal? Could it be because of that?

Your physician needs to decide whether you should discontinue or change your cholesterol medication, especially since you have several conditions to deal with. Don't come on Yahoo and ask random internet strangers what to do about your meds.

Lipitor..First time and Only Given one month prescription..Will that do anything??.?

Iam 27 years old and my recently blood work showed that my cholesterol was high for the first time in my life. I had fasted for about 9-10 hours before given blood. Results were total was 200. HDL was 45 and my LDL was 155. Doctor was very quick to prescribe me 10mg of Lipitor and only gave me a one month prescription. Do you feel that she jumped the gun in prescribing me medication rather than trying to lower it on my own. And Its only a 1 month prescription and they want to see me back, I was under the impression that you need to be on it for about 3 months in order to see results.. Any Opions would be greatly appreciated.

Obviously, you should try to make lifestyle changes to lower your cholesterol. It's definitely not as bad as some peoples' cholesterol levels. This doesn't always work, though, as scientists have discovered that genetics plays a large role in cholesterol levels. Some people who are in otherwise excellent physical health, still suffer from exorbitant cholesterol levels. Lipitor (atorvastatin) will show results fairly quickly, but three months would be optimal, as your doctor can see more of a long term change.

I could say a lot of negative things regarding why doctors are so eager to hand out prescriptions for everything under the sun (I am a pharmacist in the US), but I won't second-guess your doctor. Here on YA!, I can't see you and run tests, and only your doctor knows what's going on with you, specifically.

Communication with your health care professionals is key to your good health. Don't be afraid to speak up and be a firm, demanding advocate for your own health. Many doctors would probably be happy if more people would. When patients are complacent, it spreads easily. You seem to be an exception, so good for you in taking an active role in managing your health!

Tell your doctors of your concerns, and see if he or she will work out something whereby you can attempt to lower your cholesterol levels without possibly hepatotoxic (liver damaging) medication. Until then, theoretically, you won't be any worse off by not taking the Lipitor, but I have to recommend following your doctor's advice. Stay away from grapefruit, too! Good luck.
