What is a good alternative STATIN or natural stuff instead of LIPITOR? It must be getting ready to go GENERIC because OUR CO-PAY has SHOT UP DOUBLE from $60.00 to $120.00. Those drug cos. do stuff like that. You'd think,,after zillions been made the price would GO DOWN. I remember when ballpoint pens were first out you had to be RICH to have one,as years went by EVERYBODY GIVES THEM AWAY.
CoQ10.

Statins help reduce inflamation a little but they are dangerous drugs. http://www.westonaprice.org/moderndiseas…
Cod liver oil, vitamin E, Magnesium, vitamin C, Vitamin A also help reduce inflamation.
Stay away from commercial vegetable oils. Too much omega 6 fatty acids like vegetable oils increase inflamation. Excess carbohydrates also increase inflamation.
Eat whole foods with healthy fats like eggs, cream, whole raw milk, raw cheese, liver, fish, chicken, red meat, preferably from healthy pasture raised animals, avocados, nuts, heathy fats like butter, lard, olive oil, tropical oils.

To use or not to use Lipitor (Statin Drugs)? I was diagnosed with higher than normal levels two years ago so the Doctor put me on 20mg Lipitor and "Yes" it worked within three weeks I dropped down to a perfect level. The thing is I have had a bad back for 10 years with prolapsed discs, so when the doctor asked me if I had noticed any muscle pains etc I said no because I always feel back pain. I did however say to my wife that usually my back pain got a bit better and I always have it now, I put it down to my back getting worse and old age. Now, the other day I read up on Lipitor sideffects and decided to go off them , I thought to myself "Stuff it" I'm sick of taking these radical drugs and what they could be doing to me, now after three days I have noticed my shoulder, and knee pain gone, my back pain is better, my urine output is stronger, my sexual drive is stronger, even my neck pain that I had continuously for two years is gone, is this all in my head or what? I am telling the truth.
As a rule, the statins are very safe drugs. While I've never heard of sexual side effects, the increased drive may be a result of lessened muscle pain, which is a notable side effect of the statins. The decrease in those minor pains may alter your perception of pain from major joints, which are also not a side of statins. The pain may return, or it may stay absent. Pain is fickle that way.
Stopping a statin is not a life threatening decision. These drugs are used to manage long term risks: heart disease, stroke etc. It is worth noting that if you stop taking a statin, your cholesterol levels will return to where they were before you were medicated over the course of about four weeks. You may want to speak to your doctor, there are other cholesterol controlling drugs. Niacin is one of them, though it can be uncomfortable for some people, but combining it with the 81mg aspirin tablet tends to eliminate the uncomfortable 'flush' that comes along with taking it.
Statins are by no means the only way to control high cholesterol, they simply have the most success.
Have you heard of severe adverse drug reaction to statin drugs, like Lipitor where muscle wasting happens?
can get muscle problems like myositis and myopathy...(muscle pain and weakness)..the way to treat it is to stop the statin and try other ways/medication to lower lipids.
If you are on statin medication(Lipitor, Zocor, etc) have you experienced side effects? Also: do you take CoQ10 enzymes to replace the ones destroyed by the medication?

It really bothers me that so much is taken for granted when it is comes to certain aspects of the pharmaceutical industry. This megabillion or trillion dollar industry has very few objective individuals involved in it. I recommend with many people that have a lot more health and wellness intellect and experience than I, that we should be examining our lifestyles as a whole, instead of padding the wallets of these companies and the MD's that get kickbacks for handing out prescriptions, and coming to a holistic approach that better suits our complete being, including spirit, mind, body and all parts thereof. There is no medical evidence that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that negative cholesterol levels have a huge impact of the likelihood of a heart abnormality, angina, or stroke, unless is is exacerbated by other factors that are also present. Here is something else they just don't want you to know. Great marketing supporting statin use does not prove anything, and it shouldn't anyway. Nuf said.
i was having trouble taking lipitor, could i try another statin?
Yes. My old cardiology practice had a lipids clinic. We would often try a patient on different statins in order to find one that they could tolerate. One statin didn't appear to be better (or worse) in causing symptoms than another.
Can Lipitor cause very bad fatigue and erectile dysfunction? I have been on statin drugs for years, dosage slowly increased. Ten months ago was switched to Lipitor 80mg. Mild fatigue seemed to follow but for the past two months have been feeling constantly and seriously fatigued and having sexual dysfunction that is more than normal aging. A glass of wine with dinner makes the fatigue worse. I am very fit from lots of exercise (jogging and gym work).
go to your pharmacist counter and ask for an education sheet on Lipitor. After reading it go back to him with any questions. They often know more about meds than doctors. Best wishes and good health.
Consider the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Webmd.
Can someone rate the statins(like lipitor, Crestor, etc.) and name ones that have become generic? (A pharmacist said that Lipitor is the most widely used?) Any knowledge about the setbacks with Vytorin? What about Zetia? (tho it isn't a statin)? When statins inhibit liver synthesis of cholesterol does that lower natural hormonal levels?
Crestor seems to work the best of the bunch.
The ones that are generic are Zocor, Pravachol, and Mevacor. Of course Mevacor isn't that good.
The 'setbacks' with Vytorin are probably the recent findings with Zetia. It does lower your cholesterol but doesn't reduce plaque formation in the arteries. That is the whole reason we are trying to lower cholesterol. So until further notice.....don't bother taking Zetia. Statins have been proven to lower cholesterol AND reduce plaque formation.
Even when your levels are normal, there is ample cholesterol available to make any and all hormones etc. that utilize cholesterol in their synthesis.
What kind of changes would a 33 year old male need to make to his lifestyle to lose weight keeping in mind th? following information: i am a 33 year old male weighing 200 pounds. i am somewhat muscular but with a size 38 waist. the following has caused me to maintain my current weight but has not allowed me to lose weight: i do an hour of walking 5 days a week. i lift weights once a week for an hour. my average breakfast is a large bowl of cereal. my average lunch is 2 slices of pizza or a turkey sandwich, tuna sandwich, or other type of sandwich sometimes with a glass of water, sometimes with a coca cola. my average dinner could be a large bowl of pasta, chicken with vegetables, chinese food, or some other recipe my wife cooks up. i sleep 7 hours a night. the only time i could really squeeze in more exercise would be by getting up at 5 am in the morning or after my kids go to sleep at 9 at night. i take lipitor (statin) daily and would probably prefer not to attempt to take any diet pills. what changes do i need to make to change my body to 30 pounds lighter and more muscular?
You had not included your height in the mentioned factors... i dont know if the 200lbs is a favorable weight for you based on your build and does size 38 waist mean 38 inches (cause if so, you need a lot of reductions to do...)
Concentrate first on reducing your fat percentage by doing even more exhaustive cardiovascular exercises. Thus you should upgrade your walking to jogging. (If you are apprehensive of the repercussions on the knee, then maybe you could go cycling or maybe go swimming.) Try to do brisk walking, then if you think you can do more, then do the jogging/cycling/ treadmill/swimming thing. When lifting weights, use light weights with 15-20 repetitions or more. Minimize rest between sets. And maybe, for your meals, change those large sizes with medium ones. ©
