Questions and Answers
what are the effects of too much 5FU and Leucovorin on brain cells and digestive functioning.?, treatment for cancer. short term memory impaired. Don't seem to be digesting capsules.
Hi Edward,
I did 5fu and Leucovorin for almost 18 months for advanced colon cancer and did notice that I had a hard time concentrating on most everything. I couldn't remember anything I read. It caused me great concern, however my level of concentration and recall improved greatly over time after stopping chemo.
As far as digestive problems, I too was plagued with those. My digestive system as a whole seemed to improve and return to "normal" after finishing chemo. I think it took about 6 months.
A year ago I did a 6 month stint on oxalliplatnum. Once again I began to notice that my memory wasn't what it should be. And again after being off chemo for 9 months I am noticing that it is improving. (still can't remember how to spell the name of the drug though!)
However, when I forget to get my husband's dry cleaning or dog food at the store I can always blame it on "chemo brain!"
Keep your spirits up, it does get better!
Good luck to you.
should cytoxan, fludara, leucovorin be taken together or only one of them in the chimotherapy???,
I think you should give the leucovorin after the fludarabine, but not too long after.
what drug class is leucovorin?,
Leucovorin ( Folic Acid) is a drug that can be used either to protect healthy cells from chemotherapy or to enhance the anti-cancer effect of chemotherapy. This medicine is most often used in cancer patients who are taking either methotrexate or fluorouracil chemotherapy.
Has your pet been affected by the pet food recall?, Why is Menu Foods allowed to lie and say only 16 animals (15 cats and a dog) have died from the tainted foods. Also, sources say Menu Foods has been feeding the food to 40-50 test animals, 11 of which died. Hmmmm... interesting numbers. I hope Menu Foods goes out of business.
On another note, my 1 year old dog has been fed Iams Select Bites, and is currently being treated on Leucovorin (Folinic Acid) and IV fluids for kidney problems. The Folinic acid is used to reverse the effects of the Rat Poison.
yes, my dog has been treated too!
