Breast Feeding Summary
Doxycycline is excreted into breast milk. Oral doxycycline, 200 mg followed after 24 hours by 100 mg, was given to 15 nursing mothers (1). Milk:plasma ratios determined at 3 and 24 hours after the second dose were 0.3 and 0.4, respectively. Mean milk concentrations were 0.77 and 0.38 µg/mL.
Theoretically, dental staining and inhibition of bone growth could occur in breast-fed infants whose mothers were consuming doxycycline. However, this theoretical possibility seems remote, because in infants exposed to a closely related antibiotic, tetracycline, serum levels were undetectable (less than 0.05 µg/mL) (2). The American Academy of Pediatrics considers tetracycline compatible with breast feeding (3). Three potential problems may exist for the nursing infant even though there are no reports in this regard: modification of bowel flora, direct effects on the infant, and interference with the interpretation of culture results if a fever workup is required.

I recently started taking the prescription doxycycline for my skin and it makes me really nauseous in the mornings after I take it. I always just take it with water and usually eat breakfast pretty soon after even though I don't feel like eating because I am so sick. Any ideas on how I can prevent this because it really helps my skin and I don't want to stop taking it. Thanks!

HI! im also taking doxycycline it'll be one year in sept && it does work extremely well. i get nauseous if i take it on an empty stomach too. i eat about 10 mins B4 i take it. this way i dont get nauseous. oh && u shouldnt eat n e dairy products bcuz it will cuz otherwise ur body wont absorb enough medication. so wait 2 hours b4 or 1 hour after if u do eat dairy products.

Doxycycline and ibuprofen don't have any known interactions. However, both have a tendency to irritate the stomach so it'll probably be better to take them 2 to 3 hours apart. Both have to be taken immediately after food and with a glass of water.

I know that it stays in a person's system for a while after they stop taking it. But is that just for people who take a lot of them for a while? I want to tan tomorrow. Would that be possible without me burning?

You should not go tanning regardless of the antibiotics. Tanning leads to not only to an increased risk of cancer (of all types) but also premature aging.

Hey, I'm so sorry. I was on them (pills) for about a week and I had almost the same side effects and they go away in about a day or two.. especially if you rest alot and drink a lot of fluids. Hope you feel better soon. =)
How bad is the sunburn with doxycycline?
I am going on holiday to Madagascar in a few weeks, and we have been prescribed doxycycline to deal with the malaria- but it says it severely increases risk of sunburn. I am a naturally fairly pale, blonde person and I am clearly worried about the burning- how bad is it in reality, particularly in the tropics in August?

Madagascar is mostly plane so it will be hard for you to find shade if you are away from the coasts. And the sun does beam down on you for most of the day in August so I would recommend going tanning a lot before going on the trip this way your skin is a little used to a lot of sunlight. Or make sure you bring along a lot of suntan lotion.

You can pretty much pair marijuana with anything and you would be just fine. I just don't recommend driving under the influence of anything.
