MESCALINE

 Chapter: Entheogens

AKA: Mescal buttons; 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenylethylamine.

Mescaline is chemically similar to the hormone epinephrine and the neurohormone norepinephrine. It is the main psychoactive alkaloid in peyote, San Pedro, and other hallucinogenic plants.

Effects: Hallucinations, which begin one to two hours after consumption, peak after two hours, and last for approximately twelve hours. It has been used in psychotherapy and as a treatment for opiate and alcohol addiction.

Precautions: Use by borderline schizophrenics may worsen their condition irreversibly.

Initial side effects include vomiting, nausea, stomach disruption, followed by uncontrollable bursts of emotion that may mimic schizophrenia. Tremors, insomnia, and anorexia may also occur. It is not physically or psychologically addicting, though tolerance does develop rapidly.

Aldous Huxley, author of Brave New World, reported on his wondrous experiences with the drug in the equally-famous books The Doors of Perception and Heaven and Hell. Religious scholar R. C. Zaehner, in his books Mysticism Sacred and Profane and Drugs, Mysticism and Make-Believe, strongly disagrees with Huxley's positive assessment.

What age does a peyote have to be before Mescaline is present and how much has to be consumed?, Hi there.

I have seen several sites that say that a Peyote is not to be harvested before it is 12 years-old. Is this because it doesn't yet contain sufficient alkaloids or simply because if the desired amount were to be harvested the plant would be damaged to an extent to which it would be unable to re-grow?

This leads me on to my second question - I know the Mescaline content varies from planmt to plant but how much plant matter (on average) has to be consumed to journey?

I ask because I am looking to journey but can't afford a 12 year-old cactus. I was considering buying a few buttons / young specimens to use them. Would this work?

Thanks!

not quite the answer to your question, but rather a substitution .....

salviasupply.com has legal, herbal, narcotics, euphorants, sedatives, stimulants, seeds, and halluscinagens (bad spelling)

pretty cheap, and safe, if you just wanna halluscinate, i'd recomend some salvia divinorum or however it is spelled, i know mesciline, PCP, and LSD are all halluscinagens, and one report labels salvia as around as potent as LSD, and when smoked the effects are felt upon first inhale, rather than information, hope this is decent workaround, soon as i get a credit card i will try salvia

What are the differences between peyote and mescaline?, What can one expect from mescaline?

What can one expect from peyote?

What are some differences?

Similarities?

Peyote will make you feel like you are in that desert portion of the Simpson's Movie ... but I always get a feeling of euphoria and happiness.

Mescaline puts my mind into "do-loops". I see a wave coming in and going out and begin to equate life to that wave. Like populations moving from the rural areas to the cities for comfort and then running back to rural areas to get out of the madness.

If I had to quantify each I would say that mescaline is more serious ... more like LSD. Peyote is more of a "good times" thing that you will remember as being fun ... as long as you only do it about once a year.

Do they still even have mescaline on the streets? Last time I saw it was 1966. Some things never change I guess.

Peace

Is mescaline an illegal drug? What does it do? How do you take it (do you smoke it, what)? Who discovered it?, I basically need a history of mescaline. I tried looking it up on Google, but the sites I got contained confusing words. They gave the molecular biological facts of the substance. I need to make a poster on Mescaline by Thursday, May 31, 2007.

Mescaline is a hallucinogen. Hallucinogen experiences vary incredibly. Even the same person can have a dramatically different experience with the same drug on different occasions. Mild effects produced by low doses can include feelings of detachment from the surroundings, emotional swings and an altered sense of space&Time , seperations from ones body , jitteriness, racing ( or slowed) heart beat, nausea, chills and numbness ( especially face and lips). - Hallucinogens, including mescaline are drugs that produce psychological problems. Briefly what biologically happens is that serotonin creates chaos with your receptors.

Pill form, Smoked...

does anyone know how to prepare a San Pedro cactus to extract the mescaline?, anyone ever cooked? Dried? or used any other prep methods to getting the mescaline from the cacti? And have u ever tried it? What were the effects? Enjoy life!

yeah, but we aren't going to make finding out that easy for ya!

How come one mescaline cactus is legal while another is illegal?, why arent they both legal for growing purposes?

Well, years ago, pioneers began to grow them in large quantities to be used as fences, but since they can adopt basically anywhere, they began to grow out of control, finally, people need to introduce insects to eat them up, since it's such a pain in the fingers to cut them. That's why.

What would happen if you got really high on marijuana and then consumed mescaline?,

What is with all the perception-altering haters? You guys are all the epitome of close-mindedness, not only will you not consider someone elses ideas, but you will even do so when the idea is about perception-alteration itself?! Horrid.
That being said, buddy, www.erowid.com may provide you with some answers (actual, factual, real answers unlike this nerds getting their panties in a knot trying to preach).
Oh yeah, and to the guy who said 'how is this philosophy'? How ISN'T this philosophy? It's the definition of philosophy my man.

what kinds of cacti produce mescaline?, i want to try mescaline or peyote or whatever, but i don't want to just start eating cacti that could be poisonous or just a waste of time.

There are 2 in general. Either Peyote which is illegal in most all places or San Pedro which is legal to possess. For San Pedro you need fresh cuttings. At least eating a 12 inch cutting will work but you can injest more. I believe a good source for San Pedro is sanpedroman.com Also there is at leat one native americal church that will "sell" you a legal peyote experience. I think the donation is 300 dollars or so. But you have to do it at their place.
