Is it okay to start using gentian violet again, after having used it before?
I used it a few weeks ago, for seven days, combined with GSE, and saw some improvement, but for the past couple of days, I've been feeling a lot of pain again. Should I start using the GSE, and gentian violet again?
    mystic_e...
Please just use the GSE, genetian violet is not healthy.

It is VERY important to use it at least 2 weeks after the symptoms disappear. That's why your symptoms are back. That is true of ANY yeast treatment.

It also helps to take GSE internally.

How effective is gentian violet in treating nipple pain from breastfeeding? How do you get it off baby's skin?
I have seen 2 lactation consultants and a doctor. No one is sure if I have yeast in my nipples and no sign the baby has it in mouth either. They gave me an ointment but i didn't see much improvement after 3 days so they told me to try gentian violet. Has anyone tried it for nipple pain???? If so, how do you get the stuff off of the baby's skin???
    mystic_e...
Gentian violet is a coal tar derivative so I wouldn't use it. http://www.prematureoptimism.com/linkBlo...

However grapefruit seed extract is a natural yeast killer that has virtually no side effects. It also kills many harmful bacteria and viruses. It can be purchased at most health food, nutrition, and herb shops. http://www.drjaygordon.com/development/b...

I would certainly give the GSE a try, particularly if you are prone to vaginal yeast infections or have taken antibiotics.

Probiotics are also good for thrush and can be taken forever and have no side effects.

As for the nipple pain.... that's hard to say. Even if you have a "textbook perfect" latch it may not work for you and your baby. I have seen too many women told "its perfect" when really the latch is the problem. I would also make sure baby doesn't have a tongue tie.

Does gentian violet really work for thrush?
my baby is on antibiotics which caused her to break out with thrush and so i am going to try gentian violet but does it work?
    Tiffany J
Gentian violet does work, but is recommended only for adults, not for children and especially not for infants.

Thrush typically clears on its own and does not need to be treated. But if it persist for more than one to two weeks than measure can be taken. Such as wiping out the child's mouth with a warm cloth, cleaning any pacifiers, nipples etc. (even your own if you are breastfeeding), also increasing the intake of yogurt can help resort the active agents that kill bacteria in the mouth.

Here are a couple of web sites that have very good information based on your question:

How do I get Gentian Violet stain off my floor?
I have "hardwood" laminent flooring. I tried straight bleach and that did not work. Will it eventually come out or is there anything else that will get it off? Please help!!! I rent and I am worried this will cost me my deposit plus some to cover the damage. All your help is greatly appreciated-

have a go with 1 part bi carb soda to 4 parts water, not sure if it will work but if you have time you could try it several times to see if it lightens it. Maybe white vinegar as well.

Purple dye ( what i call it ) is good but i thought they took it off the shelves years ago.

It may take several attempts for it to lift.

    Keep trying.

Does gentian violet work for yeast infections?
I've heard it can be applied to a tampon and used for yeast infections, but it says for external use only.. hmm.. any comments?
    Amber M
yes it does and you can pour it on to a tampon and insert it. also yogurt works the plain unflavored kind. you can fill up a cardboard tampon tube with the yogurt and "inject" it up there or you can freeze the tube and insert it that way...less mess.

How do you remove Gentian Violet (purple) out of the carpet?
    Didi
One mom reported having good luck with ZOUT stain remover, even after the stains were dry. Another used Didi 7 with similar results. Any item that can be safely bleached with chlorine bleach should come clean.

Be careful with that stuff by the way, it has been linked to cancer : http://toxsci.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/con...

Is there any way to get rid of Gentian Violet stains?
My youngest daughter got it on some of her clothes and I'd like to try to get rid of the stains but I don't know how. I've been told it's not possible. Is that true?
    GranolaM...
I had some luck with soaking overnight in Oxyclean and hot water.

I resorted to dying some or the most stained things purple. It worked!

Is it safe to apply gentian violet for yeast infection?
This would be once in a long time I've used gentian violet.

    I am 17 years old

I haven't heard of gentian violet but its probably best to buy a brand like canesten to treat it. You can get an oral pill and cream or a pessary and cream. The cream is used to sooth any itching and the pessary is inserted into the vagina. The pessary works alot quicker than the oral pill. But it depends which you feel more comfortable using.

Before you use it though perhaps describe your syptoms to a pharmicist so they can make sure you actually have a yeast infection. If you use a treatment for something you don't have it can upset the natural balance in your vagina.

Also i know it sounds gross but if you can't get to a chemist and are in discomfort apply some natural yoghurt. Its messy and sounds gross but gives you some relief until you can get some proper treatment.
