Help! I’ve been on Lutera (generic for ALesse) birth control and I’m depressed. Any other suggestions?

I was on Orto-tri cycle lo, and loved it. But not my insurance will not cover this and recommended Lutera (generic for alesse). I like Lutera because I have not gained any weight on it, however I’m feeling really depressed. Can any provide any alternatives? I understand everyone’s body is different, but can anyone provide any generic BC options that minimizes depression and does not spur weight gain? I’m open to IUD,Pill, and depo advice.

Yeah, hormonal birth control did very annoying things to my mental health as well and I never found that the side effects were worth the only benefit of synthetic hormones. I got sick of putting them into my body, every one can cause at least SOME kind of undesireable side effect that would make you want to stop it. I got a copper IUD so that I never had to worry about any of that crap ever again, and I LOVE my IUD, no mood swings, no depression, no headaches, no weight gain, no acne, I have my sex drive back, I love it. You should really check iinto that and see if your insurance covers it. And IT DOES NOT matter at all whether you have had kids or not. Some people will tell you that you can’t get one unless you’ve already had at least one child, and some doctors would tell you that too, but it isn’t true. If your doctor won’t do it, there’s one who will. In my own opinion, the Paragard copper IUD is the healthiest form of birth control you can get from your doctor, basically because it is hormone free. The Depo shot was the method that REALLY messed me up, it ruined a whole year of my life, so I would not recommend that to anyone, and it seems that MANY MANY women have problems with it. With the pills, you may eventually find one you are okay with, but it may take a few tries, and like I said before, they are always a gamble with their stupid side effects. The patch has three times more estrogen in it so that is VERY likely to cause side effects like depression , but you can try anything really and see if it works. The Nuva Ring is supposed to be low dose hormones, and since you were on ortho tri cyclen lo and had success with that, you may have the most success as far as hormonal methods go, with something containing lower doses of hormones. Good luck with whatever you do and if you would like more info about the IUD, please feel free to e-mail me, my e-mail address can be found on my answers profile.

Switching from Brand birth control (Alesse) to generic (Aviane)?

As with many people, my insurance decided to stop covering the brand name birth control I was taking (Alesse) and will only cover the generic brand. I was giving Aviane, which I understand to be medically identical to Alesse. My concern is when I’m starting the new pack of the generic brand, do I need to use extra protection for the first seven days as if I were switching to a new pill?

(Please don’t include such answers like “You should ALWAYS use a back up!” That’s not what I’m inquiring about.)

Thanks.

The same thing happened to me and i had to switch to the generic brand, i have switched birth control many times and never used extra protection and i was fine. The hormones and everything is still in your system so you’re still not ovulating

Did skipping your period work for you the first month?

I want to skip my period this month, but I’ve heard some people say that it took a few packs of taking their HBC consistantly (no placebo week) to skip their period.

Oh, I’m on a monophasic pill, Aviane – generic for Alesse.

You should get the OK from your DOCTOR before trying to go against what your prescription tells you to do.

Even if you would try to skip your period the first month, you may still get it.

You need a few months for your body to regulate with your pills, so who knows what would happen.

Just take some tampons and don’t let your period run your life.

If cramps have already started, IMO its too late to try to skip it. Don’t even bother.

What brands of birth control pills cleared up your acne the best?

have you tried Alesse or the generic for Alesse?

well it depends on what ur hormone balance mess up is…all birth control essentially clears acne if its a hormone issue. all doctors that are certified could tell u the same. i asked my doctors the same Q and they told me, every brand does, even no brand generic if it is a hormone thing that’s causing ur acne…they also told me it either clears it or makes it worse…there is such thing as too much of a certain hormone that can cause acne too…just ask ur doc they will tell u the same exact thing…just get generic for starters that costs u the least amount of cash, if it doesn’t work after a few months and ur still with as much acne or worse, go to ur doc and switch to something that is different that deals more with a different type of concentration of what it works on hormone wise… u can die from taking birth control like that girl said…but that is if u have any issues with ur blood preassure, ur cholesterol, ect and u take it anyways…so just get ur blood checked and when u go to the doc for the perscription they check u out to see if u are at risk for getting ill on the pill…they even tell u in the room as ur getting checked out what the risks are to the pill, just ask if ur at higher risk and they will let u know. on the package there is about 3 warnings saying the same thing, advising u not to take it if u have health issues with ur heart or blood pressure and what not.
i take birth contrl because of acne issues and because im sexually active. Im very healthy as well, no problems with n e readings.

I have been on Birth Control Pill for 7 months, recently switched brands, pregnant?

I was on the generic of Alesse for 7 months, and recently switched to the generic of Marvelon. I had intercourse after 5 days of starting the new brand. What are the chances of becoming pregnant? I did not realize that you should be on the new pill for at least 7 days. He did not ejaculate. Aswell, i took the morning after pill about 24 hours later.

If you started the new pill at the same time you usually would have started the next pack of your old pill, I don’t think you have to wait 7 days, I think you’re protected right away. But your new pill’s leaftlet may contain more info on that.

Anyway, if he didn’t come inside you and you even took the morning after pill, and you’d been on the new birth control for 5 days already, chances of pregnancy are VERY slim.

Birth Control Question?

hi..i am currently on avaine 28 (generic alesse) ive been on it for about 6 months now..this month i recieved what felt like my period while on my last week of active pills, so i went to my doctor where she told me to skip my placebos of this month and took a pregnancy test just to be sure, (came back negative) well im still bleeding lightly on and off..sometimes its brown but only there when i wipe..and sometimes its just light pink..could i be bleeding bc i skipped my placebos? any ideas?

Yup, because you skipped your placebos. You are experiencing what is commonly called “break through bleeding” it is a side effect of birth control pills. Break through bleeding is what they call it when you bleed while taking active pills. It’s pretty normal. If it doesn’t let up next month, then talk to your doctor. You might have to switch to another brand of birth control that works better for your body. Don’t worry though, it’s not likely that your pills are ineffective because of this! You are still protected.

BTW- this is my first time ever skipping my placebos

probably not, I am not sure why this is happening but skipping the placebos should have no effect.
