what is the pill fioricet used for?

Acetaminophen is a pain reliever and fever reducer.

Butalbital is in a group of drugs called barbiturates. It relaxes muscle contractions involved in a tension headache.

Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant. It relaxes muscle contractions in blood vessels to improve blood flow. Fioricet is a combination of acetaminophen, butalbital, and caffeine.
Fioricet is used to treat tension headaches that are caused by muscle contractions.
Fioricet may also be used for other purposes.
Butalbital may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Fioricet should never be shared with another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it.
Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you drink more than three alcoholic beverages per day or if you have had alcoholic liver disease (cirrhosis). You may not be able to take medication that contains acetaminophen.

You should not take Fioricet if you are allergic to acetaminophen, butalbital, or caffeine, or if you have porphyria.
Before using Fioricet, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:
kidney disease,
liver disease; or
a history of mental illness or suicidal thoughts.

If you have any of these conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take Fioricet.

Take care always

Fioricet for migraine?

This drug has Acetaminophen, Caffiene, and Butalbital. Acetaminophen is for headache pain, caffiene is to increase the effects of acetaminophen, butalbital is a sedative. This is normally prescribed for tension headaches, but it has been prescribed to me for migraines. I have read a little about treating migraine with fioricet, has anyone used fioricet for migraine and did it help? Can you offer any other information on fioricet?

I am also on fioricet for my migraines, Been on it for about 4 years, I did try imitrix, and all kinds like it but I ended up in the e.r. for the pain was unbearable, My Neurologist suggested butal/apap/caf50-325-40mg and then promethazine for the nausea, the combination works so good for me. I have not been to an e.r. for my migraines since being on them. The only side effect my Dr. told me about was taking the butal/apap/caf pills too often will actually make you have reoccurring migraines, but I do not abuse mine and get a migraine about once a week or every 2 weeks so it does work very well.

Are there any negative side effects of the pain killer Fioricet?

My doctor prescribed Fioricet to me for my migraines. My Rx says that I can take 2 tablets – 4 times a day. Are there any known long term side effects from using this drug? I take them pretty regularly.

Fioricet is butatlbital (a sedative ) along with acetaminophen ( Tylenol ) and caffeine. All medications have side effects- don’t forget that! This one can cause sedation, nausea, vomiting and many other garden-variety side effects. The big thing is that this drug can be habit forming- but under the close care of your doctor, you can use this drug safely. The one thing you need to be carefull of is that this drug contains acetaminophen- which is Tylenol- if you have a fever at some point and take Tylonol make sure you aren’t overdosing yourself. Also, long term daily use of acetaminophen can over time damage your liver. If you cont. to use this drug past 6 mos or so, you should perhaps ask your doctor about stitching to a different drug. Is this taken for Migrain? If so, there are lots of different drugs that can be used. Good luck!

Medications causing a delayed/missed period?

I have severe migraines and finally started treating them this month. My menstrual cycle is always exactly 28 days, my period always starts late Thursday/ Friday. It’s been this way for years. I’ve been on the pill for 4 years, nonstop and have never missed a period or anything like that.

I first took Verapamil for a week, along with 4 ibuprofen and 2 Tylenol, as instructed by my doctor. I was referred to a pain specialist who took me off of that and put me on Fioricet. He didn’t mention any side effects out of the ordinary, but my pharmacist warned me to use a backup method while using Fioricet because it can cause the pill to be less effective.

I’ve only taken 7 of the Fioricet pills in a month, and I haven’t had sex at all. I’ve had all the usual PMS symptoms and all that, but still no period. Is it possible that the medicine is causing a delayed/missed period? Has anyone had a similar experience?

I have had plenty of clients with that same problem.

when taking fioricet….?

Do you get really happy and talkative and nice and hyper and just cant sit still… but then when it wears off your headache comes back right away, and then you get really depressed about the smallest things and get really cranky and rude for no reason?

Ive been taking fioricet for about 4 1/2 years now. I used to take them everyday for abou 6 months, then i stopped taking them for a while and just dealt with my headaches because I needed the fioricet to get through the day. Than I started taking them when ever I needed them. Now Im back to taking them everyday… ALL DAY long. Its getting bad. I need them to not get sad/depressed/cranky.
This has been happening for a while, but we just put 2 and 2 together.

Im 17 almost 18 if that matters.

And I know taking them all day everday is no good. I have a doctors appt. tomorrow for this because both me and my mom are worried about this.

i hope you get better. after you get back from the doctors update your question good luck

Pain Management………..?????

Pain management for my lower back. What is the best pain Management? Pain Management regiment that works? I can’t even live my normal life anymore the pain is so bad. I heard Tramadol, Ultram, Fioricet work wonders for pain management. If anyone knows of a good website to help me out with pain Med’s, I do not have insurance and the Dr. office visits hurt my wallet more than the pain. I would appreciate it. I need Pain management so I can continue with my life. I work a full time job that I have had for the past 12 years but now my pain is starting to affect my job. Is there Pain scales or questionnaires that are used to attach an objective measure to a subjective experience, such as my pain?

http://drugstoreamerica.org/

.Pain management is a common situation. Pain management medications I use for back pain are Soma and Tramadol, I have also used Fioricet, they are all great for pain management! There are many different pain management therapies. If pain can be defined as a highly unpleasant, individualized experience of one of the body’s defense mechanisms indicating an injury or problem, pain management encompasses all interventions used to understand and ease pain, and, if possible, to alleviate the cause of the pain.
Treating the cause of pain underpins the idea of managing it. Injuries are repaired, diseases are diagnosed, and certain encounters with pain can be anticipated and treated by prevention. Recovery can be impeded by pain and quality of life can be damaged. Therefore, pharmacological and other therapies have developed over time to address these aspects of disease and injury.
Although antidepressant drugs were developed to treat depression, it has been discovered that they are also effective in combating chronic headaches, cancer pain, and pain associated with nerve damage. I also hate the Doctors office! I get my meds on-line from DrugStoreAmerica. ORG the drug store’s order process could not be any simpler, just select the medicines you need, fill in the medical questionnaire, and submit your order. A U.S Licensed Physicians will review your order and issue your prescription. Next, A U.S. Licensed pharmacy will dispense, and FedEx your order discreetly using Next day delivery. get help!

Can this breakthrough bleeding mean I am ovulating?

I have read on MANY sites that Fioricet interacts with Yasmin. I had no clue until now. I started having breakthrough bleeding (taking pill PERFECTLY for 4 months), so that is why I looked up the interaction. I was on antibiotics for a kidney infection and got my period 2 days early, so I stopped the pills since I only had 2 days left. My LMP was around December 15th. I started my new pack on the 20th so that I could get my body on track from having an early period. I had a normal period. It wasn’t lighter than usual or anything. I have been taking Fioricet for cluster headaches for 2 weeks and just finished the prescription on Thursday. Last night, I started spotting and still am. It picked up slightly, but not like a normal period. I guess my question is, how likely is it to get pregnant in this situation? Does breakthrough bleeding decrease the chance that I am ovulating? I read somewhere that medications containing butalbital, increase the chances of pregnancy on birthcontrol by 25!! Seems like an aweful lot huh!? I am nervous about this! My fiance and I had an “alone” night last night, which makes me more nervous. Had I known about this interaction, we would have used a back-up method! The Dr knew I was on birth control and never said a thing about an interaction! I knew to be careful about the antibiotic, but no idea about this! Thanks for anything you can offer! Personal experiences, advice, ANYTHING will be great!

If you have had sex, then you are pregnant. Well, I haven’t ever had a kidney infection AND a period, but that is all I can tell you.

I am a guy and have chronic daily migraines for the past 5 years. I need relief from the pain. Please help !!!

Some background, I have had headaches or migraines since I was a kid (I’m 32 now) over time they started getting worse in intensety and more frequent. I have had several MRI’s but they come back fine. I have tried about 20 different preventative meds. I am on Topamax and Depakote daily right now. For pain I take toradol shots for the less severe and for the more severe headaches I take Fioricet w/ codeine. I don’t take the pain medication to much during the week because I don’t want to get rebound headaches or have my body get used to the medication. I have tried the headache diets, got extra sleep, less sleep, excercised more, then less, lost weight, had blood work done. I am making sure to give everything a chance to work but they don’t. Please anyone out there help me with any ideas you may have!!!!!

If you are deficient in magnesium taking extra magnesium every day might help. There is plenty of magnesium in nuts.

Coenzyme Q10 and apple cider vinegar every day are also both supposed to help for the prevention of migraines.

Reducing your refined sugar intake would also help as table sugar or white sugar can cause migraines. See item 71 in http://www.rheumatic.org/sugar.htm .

Long Term Use of Only Certain Prescribed Pain Relievers?

I have a relative who is uninsured and takes fiorciet for migraines and ultram for back pain. She says that these are the only medicines that work for her. She has tried going to doctors, hospitals, free clinics etc. and trying ibuprofen, aspirin and all sorts of other things both prescription and otc. The doctors keep giving her the run around since she has no insurance and keep saying that nothing shows up on the blood tests.

She wants me to buy her some fioricet and ultram (with a prescription of course). She got a doctor to write her prescriptions for it. I am concerned that long term use of this medicine can mess her body up. I am also wondering why “nothing else works” for her. Should I buy the meds? Money is no issue…I just don’t want to supply something that is not helping her get to the root of things and may be hurting her in the long run. Please give me some good nonjudgemental advice. 10 pts will be given. Thanks. The relative is 46 years old almost 47.

ask her doctor about maxalt-mlt for migranes they are kinda spendy but they work miracles they are not a pain killer but work on the cause of the migrane they work wonders for me and they work FAST
