Fetal Risk Summary

Dextrothyroxine is the dextro-isomer of levothyroxine (see also Levothyroxine). Although formerly used to treat hypothyroidism, the drug is now used exclusively for the therapy of hyperlipidemia. In a study of placental passage of dextrothyroxine, approximately 9% of a radiolabeled dose given 28 hours before delivery was found in the cord blood (1). Except for this one report, no mention of its use in human pregnancy has been located.
