Fetal Risk Summary

Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) is converted in the liver to calcifediol, which in turn is converted in the kidneys to calcitriol, one of the active forms of vitamin D (see Calcitriol and Vitamin D).

[*Risk Factor D if used in doses above the recommended daily allowance.]

Questions and Answers

Is calcitrol superior to cholecalciferol as a supplement to help in calcium absorption?, I am thinking that cholecalciferol needs to be converted to calcitrol in the kidneys. I also think that cholecalciferol is created from the hair, wool or feathers of animals. Please comment on the validity of thoughts.

Yes its much better.

Is Cholecalciferol a good name for a baby girl?, It is the common name for vitamin D3. The IUPAC name is just way too long to have practically as a name

Grate :P

fantastic

wonderful

How about
2-oxo-L-threo-hexono-1 it's a vitamin C compound

Vitamin d3 Cholecalciferol?, Do you think 2000IUs a day is too much for bone density, absorption of calcium and high doses it converts to a natural prohormone ???

Yes. See:

Where can I get Vitamin D3 in Bangalore, India?, I'm looking for Vitamin D3(Cholecalciferol) gel capsules in Bangalore. I'm able to get calcium tablets fortified with D3, but not D3 alone.

there are many preparations containing Vitamin D3 like- Alfa D3 (glaxo),one alfa (croslands) etc ask any drug store

Does anyone know of an Integrative-Medicine Practitioner in the psychiatric field located in Southern CA?, I am looking for a doctor that will work with me at prescribing MEGAdoses of vitamins & minimal amounts of prescriptions for a severe vitamin-deficiency that I have called Pyroluria.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am severely deficient in vitamins:
B2 (Riboflavin)
B3 (Niacin)
B6 (Pyridoxyl - 5 - Phosfate)
D3 (Cholecalciferol)

and other such digestive aids.

So as you see, finding a doctor to work with me that is "open-minded" to MEGAdoses of vitamin therapy with minimal prescriptions may be difficult to find.

Thank you in advance for your time and advice.

I am MOST appreciative of any and all assistance I receive.

Here you go:

Can anyone tell me the purpose of these things in corn flakes?, Can someone tell me why each of these ingredients are used in corn flakes?
Degermed yellow corn meal
Sugar
Salt
Malt extract
Sodium ascorbate
Ascorbic acid
Ferrous fumarate
Palmitite
Niacinamide
Riboflavin
Thiamin mononitrate
Pyridoxine hydrochloride
Cholecalciferol
Folic acid

Corn meal is what makes it a corn flake.
Sugar makes it sweet, and salt adds flavor (it's usually a small amount).
Malt extract is produced by mashing malt, removing the solids, and then using an evaporator to concentrate the aqueous fraction. The resulting product is a thick syrup containing sugars, vitamins, and minerals.
A lot of the things named "folic acid, palmitite, ferrous fumarate" are vitamins. Ferrous fumarate is iron, ascorbic acid is vitamin C, Palmitite is a type of fat that is easily digested, Riboflavin is B12, Niacinamide is vitamin B3, Thiamin mononitrate is B1, Pyridoxine hydrochloride is vitamin B6, Cholecalciferol is known as Vitamin D, Folic acid is a water-soluble form of Vitamin B9.

You've got some pretty healthy corn flakes.

Advice on how to manage a rare medical condition called, Pyroluria:?, I was diagnosed as STRONGLY POSITIVE last September 2005.
Pyroluria is a severe vitamin deficiency of vitamins:
B2 (Riboflavin)
B3 (Niacin)
B6 (Pyridoxyl - 5 - Phospate)
D3 (Cholecalciferol)

and the amino acid:
Aracadonic Acid (Omega - 6)

As well as other MEGAdoses of vitamins as diatary aids, and such.

I am also taking prescribed medications that require a physicians careful monitoring & priscription.

I most recently learned of ↓B2 & ↓B3 levels that are commonly present in Pyrolurics.

After starting just a little Niacin, I am more focused, alert, and have better eye-contact. That's only after one day of taking it! It works instantly for me.

It is very difficult to be my "own" Orthomolecular Psychiatrist (researching the MEGAdoses of vitamins and dosing and such). I DO have a wonderful hemotologist and great primary care physician that do lab work for me, BUT I'm "teaching" them about the disorder. I would prefer it, the other way around. Suggestions anyone?

Unfortunately for many people with rare diseases, they often end up knowing more about it than the doctors that treat them. That is just because there are soooo many diseases, that doctors cannot learn everything about all of them, and often they have to focus on the more common ones in order to be able to help as many people as possible. I've seen quite a few patients that know more about their own disease than the doctor. The good thing for them, and you since you are one of them, is that they tend to do better than the average person. The fact that you are researching your disease, and following along with your doctor is a very good sign, and makes me think that you will have it well under control. You already seem like you are making good progress.
Your doctors wil learn about your disease, maybe not as fast as you, but soon they will likely know all they need to treat you and keep you feeling as good as possible. My only suggestion is keep doing what you are doing, and you should be feeling better than ever in no time!

which form of vitamin d is best?,
There seems to be two main forms of Vit D ergocalciferol (plant based vitamin D2) and cholecalciferol (animal based vitamin D3).

There seems to be much uncertainty as to which form is best. Some say D3 is vastly superior, others say D3 is only minimally better, while others say they are about equal.

Can anyone offer evidence as to which on IS best? And why is there so much debate as to which one is better, either it is or it isnt there.

Thanks

vitamin D3

weight gaining shake dangerous?, My brother is 14 and is a going to be a freshamn in High School. He is on the JV Football team and is trying to "beef up." My father, against my mother and I's will, has bought him a weight gaining shake to help him gain weight. I am very scared that this shake will mess with his internal organs and that his body isnt prepared to metabloze that kind of calorie/vitamin/mineral intake all at once. i will list the ingrediants below and the brand and hopefully will get some answers to help satisfy my big sister paranoia.

Cyto Gainer

Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Hydrolysate, Creatine Monohydrate, Vitamin A Acetate, Cholecalciferol, D-Alpha-Tocopherol Acetate, Ascorbic Acid, Folate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Niacinamide, Pyridoxin HCL, Cyanocobalamin, Biotin, Pantothenic Acid, Dicalcium Phosphate, Potassium Iodide, Potassium Chloride, Ferrous Fumarate, Magnesium Oxide, Chromium Nicotinate, Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Soy Lecithin, Potassium Citrate, Carrageenan

Weight gainers are not anything special - just protein usually and creatine. I don't think that should be a problem or have any adverse effects, but I'd probably just go with a whey protein, that did NOT have creatine.
