Fetal Risk Summary
Biperiden is an anticholinergic agent used in the treatment of parkinsonism. Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted with this drug. It is not known if the drug crosses the placenta to the fetus, but the molecular weight (about 348 for the hydrochloride salt) is low enough that placental transfer should be expected. No reports of its use in pregnancy have been located (see also Atropine).
Breast Feeding Summary
No reports describing the use of biperiden during lactation have been found. The molecular weight (about 348 for the hydrochloride salt) is low enough, however, that excretion into milk should be expected. Neonates may be sensitive to anticholinergics, and this should be considered if a nursing women is taking the drug.
