Questions and Answers

Is Bacitracin applied dirrectly to the infected umbilical cord area or around it?, Our baby's umbilical cord just fell off. The area around the umbilical cord is red. The doctor said to apply bacitracin around the umbilical cord. My wife said he meant around it but not on the pussy area. Should it be on it or around it?

First clean the area gently with non-fluffing cotton wool pads and cooled boiled water. then gently dry the whole thing very thoroughly making sure there is no cotton wool left in there. then dust a little of the powder on the whole thing being careful that your baby doesnt breathe the powder (not good for the lungs). Keep it cleaned dried and powdered twice or three times a day and it'll heal up fine.

In the bacitracin susceptibility test, what is the cell target of bacitracin?, In the bacitracin susceptibility test, what is the cell target of bacitracin?

The bacitracin susceptibility test is used to distinguish Group A streptococci, which cause ninety percent of acute streptococcal infections in humans, from other streptococci. When grown on blood agar, Group A streptococci are sensitive to (killed by) the antibiotic bacitracin . A sterile disk impregnated with bacitracin is placed on the first sector of an isolation plate before incubation. A zone of inhibition (area with no growth) will be seen around the disk after incubation if the organism is a Group A beta-hemolytic Streptoccus. Other beta-hemolytic streptococci are resistant to (not killed by) bacitracin. Their colonies will thus grow right up to the disk of bacitracin.

Can bacitracin ointment heal genital herpes lescions?, My bestfriend would apply bacitracin ointment on the lescions when she gets her genital herpes outbreaks and she said its helps in healing it faster. Also, she had had sex with her husband in the past when the lescions weren't completely healed and her husband hasn't contracted the STD yet. Would it be that the bacitracin helped kill the virus?

u are not supposed to put any kind of ointment on the blisters. i would think it could make your genitals very sensitive or irriitated. just let them dry up and don't put anything on it. bacitracin will not kill the virus. since it is a virus it is now in her blood and will be there permanently for the rest of her life. she should take some meds like valtrex to help heal the outbreaks faster, to help control them and prevent spreading herpes.

How do I remove Bacitracin Ointment?, This stuff's similar to neosporin or vaseline.

I have a wound with stiches and need for it to dry, but I can't seem to remove all the Bacitracin with soap and warm water, even washing for 10 minutes didn't work.

How can I completely remove it?

You've done the best you can...NOW LEAVE IT ALONE!!!

Is Bacitracin good to use with tattoos?, My artist says to use this specific ointment. I've looked up tattoo care, and no where else have I seen bacitracin.

my artist had me use bacitracin and my tattoo healed up fine.. and he's been doing his job for years.. just use thin layers though.. don't pile it on there..
listen to your artist.. they know what they're doing..

Is it okay to use bacitracin on the face?, I use it on cuts and stuff, and I have one on my face. I always thought it was good for healing stuff quickly and with less chance of scarring. Is this true..?

And is it okay to put on the face? Will it cause dryness or redness or oily skin?

I use neosporian (sp?) on my face....when a pimple starts to look infected....it works to speed healing and keep a scar from forming.

Is it ok to use Bacitracin Ointment on a new Tattoo that is still scabbing?, If not - what is best to use?

This has been asked and answered hundreds and hundreds of times. You would be surprised how much info you can get by putting tattoo after care or tattoo pain or tattoo designs, etc. into the search box....

Here is a copy and paste from an aftercare question and my stock answer:

1. Antibiotic ointments are not a good idea - people are easily allergic to them and they think they are allergic to their tattoo.

2. Antibiotic ointments, Aquaphor, Vaseline, A &D ointment ALL contain petrolatum - we don't like that for healing tattoos (most also contain lanolin and many people are sensitive to these preparations because of that too)

3. Preparation H is for a**holes not tattoos - much has been written about this by many over the years and in some forms it contains live yeast cells...ewwww on open skin.

4. No baby powder, corn starch or any such "powdering." No Desitin or similar products that gunk up the skin with heavy zinc oxide.

5. No plastic wrap ever! Plastic wrap is for left overs, not tattoos. It keeps the fluids on the surface of the tattoo that a nice dressing would absorb those first couple hours so there is NO SCABBING - that's right, NO scabbing. Scabbing is not normal in a well cared for tattoo. The slight peeling that should occur should be the top layer of skin that is mixed with the ink, similar to a sunburn peeling.

Most tattoo artists seem to prefer unscented mild lotions - they are looking for products with a minimum of ingredients - some like H2Ocean products, some like Tattoo Goo (contrary to reports, there is nothing adverse in this product) Coco butter is often used as well as Olive oil body butter.

I happen to give out little pillow packs of Ink Fixx ointment for the first couple days - then they can switch to the mild lotions. People like Curel which is good - so is Aveeno - I like Cetaphil. We always give the Ink Fixx to the client to use because it is not always easy for them to go right to the store to buy things.

Truth be told, the skin heals pretty well no matter the abuse and certainly even if you use nothing at all. I have even seen people use just plain old Crisco in a very thin layer. Nothing wrong with that either.

In my studio they are also given WRITTEN directions for after care. There is NO reason for a professional tattoo artist NOT to do this for their client.

Once you remove the bandages, wash with an antibacterial soap and warm water, pat dry with dye free paper towels and apply whatever healing agent you choose SPARINGLY - this means barely covered. IF you apply too much, it will accumulate bacteria that gets stuck to it and the tattoo cannot get air.

Overall, keep it clean and don't scratch it. It will go through some peeling and other changes over the next couple of weeks. Keep dirty hands and strangers off of it!

So in the end, take what you can from everyone's advice here as no one really has the magic answers in all cases. Most of us knows what worked for them, or works for our clients in general if we are artists. Good luck with your new tattoo!

My dog ate some bacitracin zinc ointment usp. Is she going to be ok?, The bacitracin is a creme to prevent infection on cuts. my dog ate some of it. And I dont know where a vet is. SO anybody know what should I give her or do?

Bacitracin zinc,is approved for use on dogs.It is used as an Optical agent.Since it is approved for use,my guess would be your dog will be ok.I am not a vet though,my advice would be to do everything you can to contact and emergency vet tonight just to make sure.If you cant, contact your own vet as soon as possible.

Since it is ued topically,I would doubt it is poisonous to a dog.You do however need to seek an answer from a vet as soon as possible.
