How many calories a day to lose weight?

How many calories/weight watcher points must I consume each day to lose weight?, I used to be on weight watchers, and I was eating about 24 points a day. I've recently begun taking an appetite suppressent. I was surprised that it not only works, but works *amazingly*. I'm only eating about 400-800 calories a day, usually not because I'm hungry but because my fiancée makes me.
I don't know if this will actually make me lose weight though, because I thought I needed a certain amount of calories to lose weight.
I'm not concerned with what a recommended diet would say. I want to know if I can lose weight consuming 900 or fewer calories a day.
you cold lose like 400-500 in one day and eat less like u do right now
If you consume 1200 calories per day, how many calories are you supposed to burn to lose weight?, I want to lose weight and I lowered my calorie consumption to 1200 per day, I will workout on my treadmil but, how long should I workout and at what pace in order to burn calories/lose weight?
Well, to lose 1 lb of fat (weight) in a week, you need to burn off 500 calories in a day.
This is based on the working that 1 lb of fat equals 3,500 calories and to lose this 1 lb of fat in a week you need to burn off in a day, an extra of 500 calories, on top of what your body normally burns off daily (to get going functions like breathing, eating, doing daily choice, sweating.....).
That's 500 calories x 7 days = 3,500 calories = 1 lb of fat.
For an average person, calorie intake per day ranges from 1,800 - 2,000 calories.
Since you're taking in 1,200 calories per day, you're already creating a calorie deficit of 600 calories thru food; you don't need to exercise anymore, if you wanna look at it that way.
But this is unhealthy - just go by restricting your calorie intake.
You may have health problem and the risk of slow metabolism because you're consuming too few calories which may frighten your body into thinking that you're facing starvation, hence it goes into a "starvation mode" by slowing down your metabolism, to conserve whatever food in you, to protect you from starvation.
Increase your calorie intake thru food and exercise to expense off the calories - this combo is the healthy way to burn off calories and lose weight.
Workout (cardio - running, jogging, walking on treadmill) for at least 30 mins per session, 4-5 times per week, at medium to high intensity, to kick start your metabolism, to burn off fat.

The Anshar Diet
As an American I've seen enough crazy fad diets in my day to fill several weeks full of infomercials and advertisements. As such I'm going to give you the benefit of many years of health and nutrition classes and do my good deed for the year.
I'm going to tell you how to not only lose weight but change the composition of your body, increase your health, and best of all.. keep it off.
First, let's dispel some common myths.
Myth 1:
Eating less calories will make me lose weight.
Unfortunately this isn't always true. A lot of different factors program your metabolism but one of the key things is how OFTEN you eat. If you fast all day long and then have a 500 calorie meal at the end of the day almost ALL of it will be stored by your body.
Myth 2:
I can have a diet with no carbs and be healthy.
This really is a testament to how much Americans want a quick fix. Diets like the Atkin's Diet cause your body to start devouring itself, increase your cholesterol, and in certain cases can even kill you. One thing I WON'T argue, death will indeed cause you to lose weight, permanently.
Myth 3:
If I go on a diet I will lose weight.
99% of people who go on diets will end up putting on MORE weight than they lost from a diet. This is because diet is supposed to be a LIFESTYLE change, not something you do for 2 weeks. If you starve your body it will make fat cells and increase their size even faster.
Myth 4:
I need to go out and exercise to lose weight.
This isn't actually true but it's important to say that having daily activities WILL keep you healthy. If you burn almost no calories every day what else do you think your body is going to do with them? Balancing a healthy lifestyle with a good diet is what you want here, not killing yourself by running every afternoon.
Myth 5:
The scale in my bathroom gives me a good idea of how healthy I am.
The dreaded bathroom scale does NOT tell you how healthy you are. Let's say I have 10 lbs of fat, don't drink water, and have little muscle mass. Then I work out for 3 months and hydrate every day. I lose 5 lbs of fat but gain 7 lbs of muscle and 3 pounds of average water weight. What will happen when I look at the scale? Are you being fair to yourselves? Judge yourself by how you feel, not what a spinning number under your feet tells you.
With these common myths out of the way I'll tell you the secret. It's five simple steps.
~~The Anshar Diet~~
1. Only eat until you are no longer hungry.
This does NOT mean that you starve yourself. It means after you take a few bites of food ask yourself if you're still hungry. If you're not, into the fridge it goes. While we're at it, CHEW YOUR FOOD. at least 10 times per bite (using common sense if you're eating applesauce, this isn't an excuse to be an idiot).
2. Eat at least 6 (more if your schedule allows) meals a day.
I know this seems counterintuitive, but hear me out. If you eat 6-8 meals a day the meals are very small (often around 100-200 calorie "snacks"), provided you are only eating until you are NOT HUNGRY. When your body is not hungry your metabolism will not try to store energy as fat. It really is that simple. Smaller meals aid in digestion, they increase the nutrition you get from your food, and they keep you from being lethargic. If you eat when you're hungry your body stores MORE of it as fat ("Hmm. I'm hungry, I don't know where my next meal will come from! I'd better hold onto this.")
3. Eat BEFORE you get hungry.
Schedule your 6-10 meals throughout the day and stick to them. If you're waiting until you get hungry to eat you've already screwed this up. Your body stores energy if you're hungry, if your body sees food and just takes what it needs then you're running at optimum efficiency. This is called programming your metabolism.
4. Eat breakfast. Always.
Your first meal of the day is also the meal you have no choice over being hungry for. Your body has been replenishing itself all night and needs fuel. Since now you KNOW that hunger means you store your food then that means you want to keep breakfast LIGHT. A cup of cereal and a banana. A granola bar and an apple. LIGHT does NOT mean you skip breakfast. If you skip breakfast you are telling your metabolism to turn ALL of the next meal you eat into stored fat.
5. Drink water.
(I'm a big hypocrite on this one, but I can't stress it enough) Most people think that if they pick up a glass of orange juice instead of a soda they're doing themselves a favor, and that's not entirely true. A glass of orange juice can have just as many calories as some sodas. Try looking at the label sometime. If you're thirsty, drink water. If you love your soda then have your soda (real soda, not diet, artificial sweetners have been argued to be one of the worst things to ever happen to western civilization). If you decide to have a drink to treat yourself, pour yourself a half glass, don't take a can or bottle with you and for go
How do I figure out ow many calories I need to consume in a day to lose weight?, Just want to figure out how much I should be eating, as I tend to pig out alot (its usually healthy food, just I eat too big portions) so I would like to know how to count calories to lose weight so I can get an idea of proper portion sizes and get my eating under control.. I have 5kgs (10lbs) to lose and was hoping to lose that in 4-8 weeks if thats possible.
To lose a pound of weight a week you must create a 3500-calorie deficit, or burn 500 calories per day more than you eat. Here's an example of how a 150 lbs. person would achieve that:
Your daily calorie intake to lose 1lb. per week:
Add a zero to your body weight 150lbs + 0= 1500
Add 20% for extra daily activity +300
Daily caloric rate = 1800
Subtract 500 calories a day -500
(by eating 500 calories less or by burning 500 calories through exercise)
Total = 1300
EXPLANATION:
So to lose a pound a week, a 150 lbs. person needs to create a 500 calorie deficit from 1800 calories by either exercising or eating less.
Just substitute your own body weight to the above formula, for you to figure out the right amount of calories that you need. It's important that you read food labels for you to be able to count the calories.
Good luck!!!
If I eat 2000 calories a day, how many should I burn to lose weight?, I'm just trying to lose a little bit of weight after the holidays.
I eat normal portion sizes, and drink soymilk mostly. I already walk for 30-40 minutes a day at a brisk pace with my dog, but how many calories should I burn a day to lose weight?
If you eat 2000 calories a day, then to lose weight you need to burn more than 2000 calories a day. If you burn 2250 calories a day, then you'll lose 1 lb. in 2 weeks. If you burn 2500 calories a day, then you'll lose 1 lb in 1 week. It's not hard to figure out.

I try to eat a normal low fat diet everyday. I get between 1500-1800 calories per day. Am F, 37, 4'11"
Hey there, great question and i'm glad I came across it today. :)
I'm going to give you some free advice.
Contrary to what you might think, Low Fat Foods DON'T WORK.
You cannot lose weight using Low Fat Diets. Low fat foods have been popular for more than 15 years, but yet our society is getting more overweight as each year passes. This fact alone should tell you that eating a purely low fat menu is not the answer to losing weight.
Anyways, to be honest again, with all the "programs" out there today, many people are getting things mixed up, they are trying MORE than one thing, and NOT sticking to one program, and as a result of this..they're NOT losing weight...hell, some are GAINING weight because they don't have the proper guidance..
I'm going to recomend a book, it's not free, BUT i've used it myself and I still DO and I lost fat AND gained muscle........in fact, after 30 days....well, you get the picture. :-)
Anyways, check out this link for more information and PLEASE let me know if you have any questions. :-)

How many calories should I be consuming a day to lose weight?, I am 21, 5'1" and a half, and I weigh 110lbs.
My diet usually consists of:
Porridge made with skimmed milk topped with sliced banana.

An apple.
Chicken and vegetables.
A clementine.
This usually takes me to about 1100 calories in a day or just under/over. I do light activity. How many calories should I ideally be consuming in a day to lose weight healthily?
Why do you want to loose weight? Your already in the healthy ideal weight of the BMI zone.
