Depression is an illness that usually causes a sense of despair, sadness, low mood, irritability. The person can’t take pleasure in the things that in regular life are enjoyable. Usually the doctors call it “mood disorder”.

And it’s really serious because sadness and loss of interest which may seem to be temporary and mood changes can turn into a major depression and consequences can be very sad. In our days the depression starts with two weeks and lasts for months. It may occur once in a life or it may appear periodically throughout the whole life. It may occur at any age. But it’s proved that women feel depression twice as often as men.

The symptoms can vary depending on a person. Usually with depression people start worrying about their physical health, they always feel tired and there’s a lack of energy for work, they may have sexual disorder, they have problems with people in their relationships, they are not attentive at work, they have difficulties with concentration and as a result , -  they are less functional. They may abuse alcohol or drugs for example as they may think that it can solve their problems.

Very often depression may cause the feeling of guilt, uselessness and  hopelessness. The person may feel guilty for everything happening to him, for his previous experience. And it’s the worst symptom could ever be because as a result of all these the thoughts of death and  suicide may appear…And it’s very dangerous because without a support of close friends, feeling lonely in this big and severe world a person may even make suicide attempt.

People under depression may eat more or less than in a regular life and as a result they may lose or gain weight. Some of them have problems with sleeping, but some of them may sleep more than usually.

Depression may be caused by a stressful life event, for example the loss of job, somebody’s death and etc. But in fact depression is the result of several factors. Perhaps, depression  involves chemicals that carry information between brain cells. Changes in some hormones may also cause depression.

We should understand that such people usually have distorted thinking and they do not recognize reality of the situation.

When the depression is recognized your doctor should find a treatment which will be tailored to your needs as people are different, they have different symptoms and etc.

Now we’ll look through the list of some antidepressants the doctor may prescribe you to treat your depression.

  • Effexor is a strong antidepressant, which is used to treat depression. It works by restoring the balance of certain natural substances in the brain.
  • Celexa is used to treat depression. It helps to keep the right balance of chemicals in the brain which prevents depression.
  • Desyrel is used for depression treatment. It may also be used for relief of an anxiety disorder (sleeplessness, tension), chronic pain.
  • Wellbutrin is used to treat depression, bipolar depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, cocaine addiction and nicotine addiction. It can improve your mood and feelings of well-being. It helps you to restore the balance of certain natural chemicals in your brain.
  • Fludac is used to treat depression and many different disorders, such as mood disorder, bulimia nervosa, premenstrual dysphonic disorder and etc.

There is a huge quantity of antidepressants. Here I gave you only examples of them so you can see that according to you symptoms, your obstacles and your disorders. May be next time we’ll discuss some more antidepressants, their advantages and side effects in details.

But never forget that antidepressant is not the only thing in a treatment course. You can also attend some therapy (or support) groups and, of course, you should have a willing to fight your depression yourself.
