Amlodipine is a calcium channel-blocking agent used in the treatment of hypertension and angina. The drug is not teratogenic or embryotoxic in rats and rabbits given doses up to 8 and 23 times, respectively, the maximum recommended human dose (MRHD) on a body surface area basis during their respective periods of major organogenesis (1). However, rats administered 8 times the MRHD for 14 days before mating and throughout gestation had a significant decrease in litter size (by about 50%), a significant increase in intrauterine deaths (about 5-fold), and prolonged labor and gestation (1). This dose, however, had no effect on fertility in the rat.
No reports describing the placental transfer of amlodipine in humans have been located. The molecular weight (about 567 for the besylate salt) is low enough, however, that passage to the fetus should be expected.
No reports on the use of amlodipine in human pregnancy have been located.

Your question IS confusing but what I know is that each drug company can produce a medication and keep the patent for 7 years. After that time, then any other company out there can make their own version of the med (generics).
Pfizer tried to extend the patent by producing Caduet (a combination pill of Norvasc and Lipitor)....

Mild edema (collection of fluid) in the feet may occur on long term use of amlodipine. It has no other consequence except the feeling of stuffiness of the feet.
Is amlodipine a diuretic and a hearth medicine? in other words is it normal to feel like urinate more when?, in using amlodipine?
Amlodipine is not a diuretic. It is a calcium channel blocker. It is used for hypertension and sometimes angina in heart patients. It shouldn't have the same affect as a diuretic medication. Hope this helps.
Is it ok to stop taking Metoprolol 50mg and start taking Amlodipine 10 mg.?, My doctor has switched my High Blood pressure med from Metoprolol to amlodipine. I had read that that you had to slowly reduce Metoprolol but he did not tell me to. Anybody had a similar experience.
My brother stopped taking his Metoprolol and he fainted and had to go to the ER. Do not stop suddenly. Instead, reduce the dosage to 25 mg for a few days, then to half of that for another few days, then skip a day a few times, then you can stop. I take it too, and it makes me dizzy so I take 12.5 mg twice a day with meals. Even that relaxes me a lot and my pulse is always 60.
Amlodipine Besylate(Norvasc)is used to treat hypertension in cats but so is Fortekor?, Prescription drugs from the vet are toooo expensive so if I get a script and get it filled myself thru my pharmacy it is cheaper. There is NO regulation on vet medicines they can charge you any price they want. Shame on them..............................
Fortekor has been tested exclusively on cats and dogs. Therefore your Vet prescribes it because he knows exactly how it will work, how much your pet needs etc...and there are studies done that he can refer to. By selling Fortekor, he supports a pharmaceutical company that is commited to bringing new pet medications to the table. This is important because as companion animals, we want them to have access to the newest and best medication possilbe. Using a medication that has not been studied on cats or dogs is only advisable if there is no other alternative. This is called "off label" medication, and most Vets are obligated to use the medication that is labelled for pet use before they offer one that isn't.
As for cost, there is going to be a presciption fee plus the cost of the pills. Animal medication is not as cheap as human meds because there is a smaller market for them : and are therefore not mass produced.
So this is the bottom line: Fortekor has been clinically shown to help cats with hypertension, the company that makes Fortekor spent the money to prove it and those costs are passed down to the consumer. So you need to decide if this is the medication you want your cat to have, or is something else that is cheaper and not tested for cats the better option?
Can anyone recommend an alternative to high blood pressure medicine? Also, research your food. Example: Black Licorice will raise your bp sky high but Doc's will not tell you that, neither will pharmacy's, they are enjoying their money too much as they vaca taking your calls from the hoiety toiety beaches :(

I'm on Lisinopril, Amlodipine & Spironolactone -high BP Lisinopril makes me cough May I leave it off?, Also is it safe to take Amlodipine only?
Lisinopril can cause coughing, but you should call your doctor if you can quit taking it.
Spironolactone is a potassium sparing diuretic, and there is probably a very specific reason you were prescribed that medication also.
Call you doctors office tomorrow to see if you can leave a message for him/her, they'll let you know what you should do.
