What is the best treatment for Endometriosis?

My physician wants to give me Alesse (combo birth control). I am worried about the side effects, which are acne, excess hair, dark patches above lip and on forehead, WHICH I ALREADY HAVE!!! Including the occasional several pain from my right ovary.

I don’t trust these doctors. They couldn’t even find a reason for my chronic bronchitis so I’m seeing a specialist.

Please help me! Should I try the birth control? Is there another option?

I’m on the Lupron Depot and so far it works. Lot’s of side effects though ๐Ÿ™ It does shrink the endo. There is no cure for Endo. I suggest trying the pill and maybe asking about the Lupron Depot shot it is expensive and can only be taken for 6 months. Also try this site http://www.endometriosis.org/
Did you have your surgery yet?

And I never heard a thing about sex and masturbation for helping with Endo and I have read a many books on Endo , Websites, medical research articles, and have been to many Dr’s….

Also I’m so sorry you have Endo. I know what a pain it is (no pun intended) I hope they find something that works for you, if not the pill maybe something Else. Good Luck!!

Question to those on birthcontol (Alesse)?

First of all, I am not sexually active. Well why then heck am I on birth control you might ask. I have been on Alesse for 5 years, I went on it when I was 17 because I have EXTREMELY painful menstral cramps and my physician thinks it might be endometriosis. She put me on Alesse to help regulate my periods and ease the pain. It works wonders (plus it cleared up my face.)

My question is, has anyone on Alesse (or any birthcontrol pill) found that their periods are shorter and shorter? Even after 5 years, my period has gradually dropped from 4 to 2.5 days.

That is very common with any birth control. I wouldn’t worry about it. It is a blessing if you ask me!!

Getting pregnant with Alesse ?

So been trying to get pregnant for a while. Problem is a very messed up cycle. Having another ultra sound soon (but in all past one’s they say “normal”. Doctors have always questioned endometriosis, fibroids or PCOS (polycycstic ovarian syndrome). But all tests have never proven any diagnosis. So doctor has put me on Alesse for 4 months to attempt to “regulating” me to hopefully make it easier to get pregnant. Just started my 4th week (the reminder pill). So from what I’ve been told I should start my period today. We’ll see. I know it’s common for it not work right the 1st month.

So the real questions, has anyone been in this situation ? Any luck with getting pregnant after stopping Alesse ? How long after stopping ? Did your cycle regulate ? TTC is so frustrating. 27 years old. We’re ready but it’s just not happening on it’s own. Every friend of mine not single, have at least one kid. My husband and I feel left out. ๐Ÿ™

My honest opinion is to go see a reproductive endocrinologist. An RE will run the proper test, give you the proper diagnosis, and determine the proper treatment to get you pregnant sooner. REs have far MORE training in fertility than a regular GP or OBGYN does. An RE wouldn’t prescribe birth control pills for 4 months. He/she would find out WHAT the problem is and fix it. Birth control pills don’t fix the problem, all they do is make you bleed predictably every month.

Don’t waste your time, go see a fertility specialist. Make an appt with an RE for a consultation ASAP.

Good luck.

Pudge problem, women only pls?

I need help with this. I am on depo prevara and I already plan to come off of it. I have to take birth control for my endometriosis and I will be switching to Alesse. Anyhow I have gained weight on my lower half of my body and my upper half is too skinny. Buying clothes is hard. I am super skinny from the waist up but from the waist down I am pudging up and have really bad cellulite! I need to correct this somehow and I am taking gym classes (cardio and yoga) 3x a week and I dont eat junk food but the weight is only increasing on my lower trunk area. I dont know what to do, I look like someone squeazed me and everything went to the bottom. Why does this happen??? Should I completely come off the birth control? HELP! Ive tried the cellulite treatments and creams, is hormonal weight gain that hard to loose?

I am also on Depo, and I am thinking about getting off of it. Yes, hormonal wieght is hard to lose. I am trying also. Once the depo is out of your system, it should get a little easier. Good luck.

Birth control needle, ruined me, need help?

ok so i was on marvelon at first which caused tonnes of pimples. my dr switched me to depo prevara which gained tonnes of cellulite in my thighs and even more zits and oily face. Ive decided that i am coming off of it in november which would have been the date i get the next shot. Ive been on BC since i was 15 and i have bad cellulite i want to get rid of. My question is once i come off this hormonal crap will my face return to its normal nice state, will my thighs lose the cellulite? will there be any side effects? PS i take bc because i have endometriosis, ill take the risk. I may go on alesse but in 2007 so i have time to repair my body. Please any advice is appreciated.

I gained a ton of weight on depo. I only had one shot and didn’t take it ever again. I did a 3 week detox, and ate really heatlhy for 2 months
straight and excercized like crazy. I lost the weight and felt a lot better.

Question in regards to the Birth Control Patch and Nuva Ring. 10 Points!!?

I had surgery last week for numerous female problems,( excision of endometriosis, detection of adenomyosis- 2 hernias and the removal of half of an ovary that had a large abnormal cyst.) Per the Dr.- (who is 1 of only 4 specialists for these diseases in the world) says I need to be on birth control to suppress the ovulation of that ovary until it heals otherwise I can produce a blood cyst, hematoma or other serious complications if it tries to ovulate as damaged as it is. I only need to be on something 2-3 months. Preferably 3. Problem is I get violently ill with the pill. I throw up, vertigo- I don’t no if its in relation to my women’s troubles or hereditary or what. Ive been on 6 pills and depo provera in 1.5 years and im on my 4th day of alesse (commonly known as Lybrel,or Aviane as generics)- Im not a lazy person, very athletic, and outgoing, I own a Business so I cant be throwing up and bed-ridden for 90 days nor would I even attempt it. My main question is- has anyone had the bad nausea/vomiting or other GI symptoms with the ring or patch. And is the patch even still available- Ive heard of all the lawsuits, but I only need it short term.

Also Ive tried all known remedies for taking the pill with nausea, taking it at different times, with and without food- with a milk-shake, I live on ginger and carbonated drinks to help pass nausea- and I go through more phenergan than a pregnant woman. I also tried inserting it vaginally- and I had lower GI complications but that could have been from the endo on my bowel- but Im scared to find out ๐Ÿ™‚ Please help!!

Hi Christin, yes I think you should try the nuva ring if your having all that trouble taking the pill ask your doctor to give you a sample to try for one month and see if that works for you you’ll never know if you don’t try it
but I personally think that will work for you,

GOOD LUCK

i didn’t have any problems with the patch. well. some slight skin itching and discoloration that has now faded since i quit using it. but i’ve never had any problems with any birth control medications. so i can’t say how they’d do for you.

i didn’t like the nuva ring. nothing wrong with the meds for me but i could physically feel it shifting and mentally i was always worried about it falling out or not being in the proper place to release the meds but it says you can stick in anywhere inside there and it should work. but i didn’t like it. of course, i’ve had a child so if you haven’t maybe it would be better for you.

sorry if that didn’t help very much

Is this possible? Some questions… thanks!?

Just wondering-
I finally had my appt. today with the gyno (possible endometriosis) and she ended up doing a pap test even though I had it recently done by my own doctor & everything came back normal as usual.
Anyway, the gyno did one today too & afterwards I noticed cramping but not like when I get my period- these cramps were less intense. I guess my question is this: Why did I have those weird cramps after the pap test? I don’t remember ever having them before when my own doctor would do the test- so why after the gyno did it happen?
Also, it made me wonder if it is actually possible for someone to be pregnant (not knowing they are) and have a pap test done, and what if it’s so early that the gyno wouldn’t even be able to tell? Like, could all that poking and prodding around in there cause any harm or anything?
Just curious if anyone has ever heard of this (being pregnant, not knowing it yet, and having pap test done)
Also, has anyone ever taken Alesse for birth control pills? I have to take them for at least 3 months to see if it regulates my periods & it’s been YEARS since I’ve taken birth control pills. I am 26 yrs old. Never been pregnant.
Sorry for the long question but thanks ahead of time for anyone who answers this!!

Pap test is typically performed at the first prenatal appointment and it causes no harm to pregnancy.
